RIP David Crosby

Well, I shall just say Charming! Once again.
What a sin not to have heard of David Crosby ( other posters hadn’t either) and to ask about his songs.

DP used to have a Bob Dylan CD with Mr Tambourine man on which us why I know that song, it’s really catchy and now it’s my ear worm for the day.

It still drives me mad as an earworm sometimes but brings back memories of that endless summer of cricket ....

I remember spending a summer going out with someone who loved playing cricket and also loved The Byrds.
Mr Tambourine Man was preferable to the cricket!

I was really sad when I heard (probably remembering the kid I was with all those hopes and aspirations in the late 60s/early 70s). As has already been said, soundtrack to my formative years. But his singing meant a lot to me, for whatever reason.
I came onto this thread hoping to have a bit of a reminisce, favourite songs, memories (anyone else remember their bit in the 'Woodstock' film? Lol) and find a philosophical debate about the meaning of ignorance - bit of a shame.
As someone who knows next to no-one in new films or current alternative comedians or Prem footballers, I ask long-suffering DD "Should I know.." or "When would I have seen X?". Or I google them.
When someone has died, maybe choosing words carefully is what we normally do, as people are sad.

Why not just move onto something else which is what I do if I see a name I don't recognise.

When I saw David Crosby, CSNY came to mind (unless Bing had a famous son!) but I googled it, read his personal bit which was ‘interesting’ to say the least and posted how, surprisingly, he’d lived until 81.
A recent post about Mrmenno had me googling, but was of little interest to me, so I didn’t respond.
This isn’t a personal criticism of any GN, however, I cannot see the point in just saying ‘never heard of him/her/they/them/it, when the subject could be googled, possibly in less time.
Perhaps I’ve got too much time on my hands?

Ex boyfriend got me into C, S, N & Y.
So pleased he did wasn't my normal music. Loved the gentle style, Our House is a classic, thought Dave Crosby had serious troubles, surprise too he lasted so long. Phil Collins apparently paid for his Liver transplant.

Looking back, few old ex boyfriends introduced me to artists I and my girl friends didn't know.

Love his music but he is/was a troubled man. He had a very distinctive voice. Fell out with all his bands over the years. Roger McGuinn of Byrds fame still comes on occasion to play solo in uk amazing musician. Wild Horses I love.

I`d never heard of David Crosby, but I HAVE heard of Crosby, Stills and Nash, but that wasn`t made clear at the beginning of the post.

I was the same GSM - thought of Crosby Still & Nash immediately when I read Crosby on the news but seeing the Christian name confused me.

I suppose it's inevitable as we age more and more musicians of our youth are not going to be around. I liked the music of Crosby Stills and Nash and before that The Byrds, well I think I did from what I can remember, I liked most '60s groups.

I think Stephen Stills and Graham Nash are still around.

We saw a documentary at the cinema just before Christmas about the making of Neil Young’s ‘Harvest’ album, fifty (yes, fifty! ) years ago. The various components of CSN&Y featured, all looking impossible young.

Stephen Stills has had some mental health issues over the years involving serving in Vietnam when he was too young etc. I think David Crosby went to prison at one point, I forget what for, then in recent years he discovered a son he didn’t know he had and they’ve made music together. He was certainly a character!

I loved the Byrds in mt early teens. Apart from Mr Tambourine Man, some other greats were ; Turn, Turn ( There is a season etc, from the Bible)
The Bells of Rhymney, All I Want To Do, Eight Miles High and My Back Pages to name a few.
Crosby, Stills and Nash formed later, Graham Nash leaving the Hollies. More great records.
Dave Crosby had a terrible lifestyle and I’m also surprised he lasted so long. RIP.
