Why does the BBC appoint presenters who cannot pronounce English correctly? I was wincing today during Women's’ Hour as the presenter persistently used ‘v’ instead of ‘th’. there were ‘wivs’ and ‘ whevers’ aplenty. I know RP is frowned upon by the Beeb these days and I am not complaining about accents as I love the variety they bring but find slovenly speech unacceptable . If you want a career in broadcasting surely your first priority is to learn to speak coherently?
I hear Ed Stourton has been given the push for being to ‘posh’
