Sound bars

Bumping this as I have the same problem.

My hearing is fine but the clarity of speech when watching television is poor. I now find using the written words at the bottom most helpful.

If we turn the sound up it is just loud and no clearer.

We have a Samsung sound bar and I have the same trouble with hearing speech. I have tinnitus and was blaming that, but it's good to know that others with good hearing are having the same trouble.
I shall watch this thread with interest.

Sound quality seems to be an ongoing complaint amongst people of a certain age. We've tried a sound bar but it made no difference. Perhaps a very expensive one - Bose? - would help?
DH has a theory that it's pre-recorded films and dramas that are the problem. Live programs are fine.

I have this problem too, although I do have some hearing loss and tinnitus. I’m finding I’m losing interest in the tv preferring my iPad and headphones. We have a Bose sound bar, and it hasn’t made much difference. Does anyone know if tv’s are Bluetooth now so I could use my headphones? Our tv is twelve years old now and doesn’t have it.

Same problem here, but my hearing is fine. Yes, I use the subtitles - but they block part of the picture, very annoying. I don't think we can improve things from our end.

Bluetooth headphones don’t work very well with visual sources as there is a noticeable latency that makes the sound go out of sync.

We have a Yamaha one and it is good.

Why don’t you just use sub titles I do for everything but the news that’s what they are there for to clarify things

We have read some reviews of certain TV programmes and very often we aren’t the only ones who have a problem with the sound, it’s often the way the programmes are recorded, same as the lighting - in some shows its so dark, adds atmosphere apparently.

Ihave two hearing aids and use a sound bar and sub-titles on my Living room tv, Still struggle with sound at times.

My very cheap (non-smart) bedroom tv I use with headphones. These are wired into the tv, but come off the charger device and I use wirless. These have the volume control on them and give me total clarity.

Seriously considering getting a further set for my Living room tv.
