Anything cheerful to recommend on TV?

I am only halfway through the 1st episode and already loving it - the clothes, the cars .... terrific.

I’m currently watching LadHood on BBC iPlayer and finding it very funny and cleverly written.

We've watched the 'Brokenwood' series a number of times GrandmaSueUK, we love it. Sort of Midsomer Murders in New Zealand - not too gritty or too trite, nice characters, lovely scenery and a bit of humour.

I like the way they make fun of Kristen's coffee like they did with Joyce Barnaby's cooking skills in Midsomer.

I also enjoyed The Almighty Johnsons, again from New Zealand and about an ordinary family who are also Norse Gods. A comedy drama. I don't know anyone else who has seen this series.

Schitts Creek. The best series ever made.
It’s no surprise that’s it has a cult status in the US.

I loved this too.
Totally silly. Really miss it!

Also "Offspring" - Australian drama/rom-com about a family where the protagonist is an obstetrician. She is good at her job but socially she's constantly questioning herself.
You get to hear what she's thinking.

Lots of quirky characters, wide extended family.

The "preview" episode is poor but bear with it.
Easy watching. Funny.

Agree with NotSpaghetti about recommending Offspring but you'll have to be quick as it's only available on Netflix till 30th September. Started watching it a couple of months ago and with a few more binge-watching sessions will manage to get to the end of 7th series. Hugely enjoyed it.

Have recently binge watched both series of Mum and loved them.

“Hacks “ on Prime is enjoyable - it’s about an ageing famous female stand up comedian ( bit like Joan Rivers) who is trying to revive her career, she employs a young woman writer to help write her jokes - the relationship between the two of them, and how both careers fare is so funny. Loved it.

The Brokenwood Mysteries, a New Zealand comedy/drama. I think you have to give it a couple of episodes to get into it, but it's well worth it. Seven series available so far. Hoping the 8th makes it over here very soon. I love the recurring town characters who are very funny. It's available on the Drama channel and I'm just about to start my second watch.

Lucca - did you also watch The Mafia Only Kills in Summer?
That's a good watch. Italian (obviously) with subtitles. Not so light given the subject matter but looking at the Mafia through the eyes of a child. It's mixed in with actual footage from newsreels etc. Very evocative.

I enjoyed The Queen's Gambit too by the way.

Chesapeake shores was another easy watch. Well to do large American family.

Every decreasing circles is brilliant ( I was astounded to find out it was written by the same writer who gave us Brush Strokes ) but I wouldnt say it was cheery.

Loved A place to call home. Enjoyed Virgin River with all the beautiful scenery.

There were lots of easy watching programs in the last few years, but not many new ones.
