What did you think about Murder in Provence?

I really disliked the first episode, warmed to the second and really enjoyed the last.
I didn't drink during the first episode, had a small sherry during the second and a large glass of wine during the last episode.

This I believe is the secret to enjoying Murder in Provence.

We enjoyed them. DH surprised me when he asked if they were being recorded. Nice easy viewing. Loved the scenery, sorry it has finished.

I’ve just read a couple of Maigrets on my Kindle - now wondering whether the old B&W TV series is available anywhere - with that memorably haunting signature tune.
Netflix hardly ever seems to have anything I want to watch but I’ll try anyway.

Unable to anorexic through another episode I watched The Birds instead .

A very creepy film with crude sixties effects and a strange ending that just fizzles out - I was riveted to the end .

Couldn't be bothered to watch it last night, having seen the first few episodes. It's not as enjoyable as Death in Paradise - which manages to wrap up the story in an hour, instead of 2 hours. If I'm going to commit to a 2 hour drama, I would generally prefer to watch a film!

I thought the setting was lovely, but the whole French speaking English thing was confusing. Whenever a new character arrived I would think of them as English living in France and then realise they were French! I do wonder what will happen if they get an English ex-pat/tourist who can't speak English. The policeman from "Allo,Allo" comes to mind.
Roger Allam was better as Thursday. Couldn't we have his earlier career?

Wasn't that Flambeau, Father Brown's nemesis posing as a French doctor?
And why is Lady Felicia living with Inspector Thursday?

DH and I have rather enjoyed them. Just right for a Sunday evening.

Don't think we would watch another series.

Stylish frivolous tosh,just right for Sunday evening .
So much better than the usual child murders or wife abuse .

Well, I didn’t trust that doctor as soon as I saw him!

We just about lasted through the second instalment, which was so formulaic and we could see this was the shape of all future instalments. A waste of good actors and lovely scenery. Do police really discuss cases in loud voices in restaurants, and why is the female lead involved in the investigation, especially as she appears to have known everyone in the case and doesn't seem to be using her psychologist skills? Don't know, don't care - give me Maigret with Rowan Atkinson every time!

Midsomer Murders sent itself up in such a subtle way it became a necessary part of its appeal. Joyce’s terrible cooking and Cully turning up when least expected didn’t contribute to the plots but in no way detracted from them either. That it was able to evolve with different lead characters would never have worked if it hadn’t had a cast iron formula.

I was hoping Murder in Provence would grow on me but I doubt it will.

I wonder if Roger Allam will come to regret the role?

I found it very boring indeed, perhaps it needed to be a real French crime show.
I enjoy Montalbano as a more gentle tv cop drama also Midsomer Murders.
Roger Allam is wasted in this.

I don't think it's anywhere near as good as Midsomer Murderers - the relationship between the two main characters does not seem plausible, holds no interest whereas the relationship between the Barnaby cousins and their wives was more engaging and amusing.

It lacks any spark or humour.

A bit Midsommer Murder-ish, transferred to the Cote d'Azur! Sunday night entertainment.

My Dad had Citroen DSs when I was young. Us children hated them. The suspension was so wallowy that we felt car sick the whole time in them.

Was it one of those that went up like a hovercraft when the engine was switched on Aveline?
I'm surprised any driver could see beyond the bonnet.

DH's uncle had one, yes, it went up then sunk down when it was turned off!

Last night , I watched our Roger in Endeavour and he is so believable in it .
I want him to come home to my cooking and me !

Like others I am enjoying it for the scenery, and the actors, even if the storyline is weak & wooly. Nancy is very slim and wears her clothes well but definitely agree about the bra especially in the yellow trouser suit. I dozed off mid episode but still managed to follow the story. OH is lusting after the Citroen, says at least twice per episode " I do like that car".
