New drama series last night. I quiet enjoyed its setting in France. In the beginning I half expected Endeavor to pop up but that soon left me when I got involved in the story.

I'm very puzzled. I think they are all supposed to be French but with English regional accents, one tonight Black Country. I know who murdered the first one, but not the other two or was it three. There a a few bad face lifts and poor acting, but as there is nothing else on I watched it for the scenery

Decided to watch it as there is nothing else on…..yawn yawn rubbish!

icanhandthemback Sun 24-Jul-22 22:35:45

I gave up on it, it was so slow and boring.

annsixty Sun 24-Jul-22 22:30:10

Some rather poor acting tonight but I watched it to the end.
The girl friend wears some lovely clothes and it is obviously always going to be hot and sunny.

BigBertha1 Sun 24-Jul-22 22:30:09

It was rather lurid. I like that I can watch it, go to sleep wake up at the end and know what's going on.

The colour of the rosé they were all drinking was too dark to be the real thing! ?

BlueBelle

Just caught up with it oh my goodness so boring and very poor acting especially that lead bloke never seen it before so don’t know the names they re all pretty wooden and it s sleepy time tales
First and last I reckon

Roger Allam - he was excellent as a young Morse's superior.

MawtheMerrier Sun 24-Jul-22 21:25:58

It is as wooden as Sherwood Forest, but I’m just loving being in France, albeit vicariously! ????????

I haven't seen Death In Paradise, to be fair. I might give it a go.

Callistemon21 Sun 24-Jul-22 21:00:36

I do usually but I enjoyed Death in Paradise - the victims were usually unpleasant characters and Kris Marshall as Humphrey was a joy.

Escapism.

I am not a fan of 'cosy' murder stories. It seems incongruous to have tales of murder in a gentle, pretty setting with the security of knowing that it will all be solved within the hour, gruesome things happen offstage, and the detective will live to fight another day at the same time next week.

I like more grit in my murders grin, Give me a bit of Val McDermid or a series of Luther any day. Midsomer Murders or the other Sunday dramas don't do it for me. My daughter loves them, though.

Callistemon21 Sun 24-Jul-22 20:53:22

The episode tonight is ridiculous. The girlfriend has been seconded to the police and they are investigating a murder of someone she knew as a child.

As if anyone who knew the victim would be allowed to be involved in the investigation!
Utter rubbish - but the scenery's nice.

Not a patch on the rather enjoyable Death in Paradise.

I enjoyed it just right for a Sunday evening,I like Roger Allan ,loved the scenery nothing to complain about.

Davida1968 Tue 19-Jul-22 10:08:48

Loved it. Undemanding & easy "detective" type story, with gorgeous scenery. Just disregard the plot & enjoy the characters! (Definitely in the "Mallorca" and "Death in Paradise" mode, IMO. ) We'll watch the series.

I suppose it's a TV example of a 'cosy crime' story. Not everyone wants to see gritty and voyeuristic murder dramas or police procedural programmes. Pleasant viewing with popular characters is very welcome. I liked 'Rosemary and Thyme' too.

Calendargirl Tue 19-Jul-22 07:23:20

Another programme it reminded me of was the (pretty awful) Rosemary and Thyme.

BigBertha1 Tue 19-Jul-22 05:56:51

Loved it just the light relief I needed.

I binge watched this on my newly acquired Britbox. quite enjoyed it but it was a bit lame. However, I'm happy to watch things that do not need a lot of thought from me. Would watch it again as it was non confrontational.

We both enjoyed it on catch-up late afternoon while hiding from the heat. Gentle stuff for a sleepy afternoon.

Catterygirl Mon 18-Jul-22 23:20:19

I tried to watch it with OH yesterday, but we both found it too slow. I tried again this afternoon and quite got into it. Needs more outdoor shots. I found it to be a lot like Midsummer murders.

LadyGracie Mon 18-Jul-22 22:58:09

We watched for about half an hour and thought it pretty dire.
I loved him in Endeavour.

merlotgran Mon 18-Jul-22 19:58:48

I kept thinking how much my mother would have loved it. She enjoyed any detective dramas where the wife/partner was clever, stylish and loyal, often stealing the limelight.

I’m thinking Paul Temple and Steve, Maigret and Madame Maigret and the wife in Pie in the Sky.

I enjoyed Patricia Hodge playing the mother.

I love Aix and enjoyed glimpsing parts of it. Cassis is stunning but the scene there didn’t look like how I remember it. I was disappointed that the actors were all English, even the extras looked English with no French body language.
2 niggles: casual unnecessary blaspheming language, and stupid amount of cushions on the bed that had to be removed before getting in.
Apart from that it was good Sunday evening entertainment.

Nandalot Mon 18-Jul-22 19:39:23

Very disappointing. Even the short views of Cassis which was the first holiday with DH when both students (youth hosteling) wasn’t enough to redeem. Had really been looking forward to it.
