Scotlands Home of the Year 2022

I love the presenters especially the banter between them. I’ve even been following Kate Spiers. I can’t remember which houses I liked the most, some of them were quite similar. I know I liked the Scandinavian inspired house. I didn’t like the house with the grass on….I found it claustrophobic and I kept imagining people banging their heads on the ceiling. The little tiny house was gorgeous but was never going to win as there was too little of it. If I have one criticism of the programme it’s that I can’t always get a feel for the layout of the house. I don’t like houses with mezzanines because I worry about small children vaulting over them and my mad whippet certainly would, but that is just a very personal opinion! I can only thank yet again the OP who told me about this series as it’s my go to programme these days.

I love this programme and actually like the three presenters and their cast.It is a great format and some beautiful houses.I always prefer the more eclectic and less show home ones.Ones where time and ingenuity have been used rather than lots if money. However for me Rhu boat house would be my sort of home.The winning cottage was just too busy and full of 'stuff' .Although I could appreciate how much love and care had gone into it.

I’m not sure about the winner. I did love it but I felt it was more like a museum than a home.

Maybee, I think they must have a huge storage unit, where they hide everything before filming!

I’ve not read the last few posts as I fell asleep watching it last night so I’m going to watch it now. I was really sad to read that the male presenters son died suddenly at the age of 6. As well as being a lecturer and an architect he writes books and has done many long distance hikes to raise money for charity. Before I fell asleep the houses I saw made me realise how difficult it’s going to be to pick the winner. I do sometimes wonder where people keep things like mops and buckets and where they dry their washing. And some houses make me wonder how they keep on top of the dusting. Or why, when they have lots of windows, they don’t spend all their lives cleaning the bird poo off them….

My favourites were the winner and th Rhu Boat house ,I'd have been happy with either winning .I'm not a fan of huge houses with massive windows so a few this year ,although beautifully decorated just weren't my style.
The thing about the winner that impressed me was that almost everything was made by the owner.He said if I want a painting for that space ,I paint one .

I absolutely loved the house too, because it was a reflection of the person who lived there. I was so pleased for him, when he won.
I felt some of the entries were more show homes, than anything else.

I liked the winning house. I liked that it was just an ordinary house made into a home by what the owner had done to it. And he seemed like such a down-to-earth man!

What did everyone think of the winning house? I loved it, but then I loved quite a few of this year’s entries.

I hadn’t realised it was a brand new series so I think there may be earlier episodes that I haven’t seen. I often watch earlier series as well. And I haven’t seen the Christmas one properly as I nodded off when I watched it. I love the presenters; they’re all so different but work so well together. I actually feel that I want to be there with them chatting away. It’s been one of those lockdown programmes that has made me feel connected to the outside world.

Ispend a lot of my time changing and upgrading things ,just because I enjoy it .Programmes like this are great ,much better than Grand designs which seems very formatted.The fact these are homes already lived in makes all the difference,to me,

I love it too! I just ignore the presenters, it's the homes I want to see. Some people have such a flair fo interior design.

One of the 'Edinburgh' homes wasn't actually in Edinburgh itself, but just a few hundred yards from where I live, and is a lovely home.

I gave up on this programme as I found the presenters so irritating! DH was always shouting at the screen at some nonsense they were coming out with so we just banned it from our TV.

I was just about to start a thread about this but thankfully I did a search first (mainly to double check that I hadn’t already started one!) and was wondering who it was that first recommended the programme because I wanted to thank them (thanks paddyanne!). I absolutely love the series, not just for seeing such beautiful houses but also for the lovely banter between the three judges. The only downside is that the whole of my living area could probably fit into one of the rooms in most of the houses! And it gets me wanting to get the chalk paint out again having sworn to never paint anything ever again. It was lovely seeing the Edinburgh homes the other night as last time I was in Edinburgh I made my way to the gallery of modern art so walked through parts of new town. Can’t wait to go back to Edinburgh again. It’s head and shoulders above all of the other programmes of it’s kind, especially after the BBC’s great home makeover series morphed into something really tacky.

I love SHOTY. But I can’t stand the three judges, so always watch it with the sound off and sub-titles on. I really wish they’d take their shoes off when they go in, the wee cottage had a lovely cream rug. I, too, am pleased that my favourite won.

The wee dovecote house was just too much of everything ...for me .I'd go nuts with all that clutter.I did appreciate the effort and love that went into it though .Looking forward to the rest of the series ,I always think 6 episodes isn't enough

I absolutely loved it. So good to see real houses that people live in for a change. Very inspired to do more to my own house and garden now.

Thoroughly enjoyed it - in my neck of the woods for the first episode. Glad they kept the judges and the format the same.

The houses were absolutely gorgeous. It was my favourite that won too. I still can't stand the man though! I find him smug.
