Fans of Louise Candlish, I'm one, may be interested to know that her novel "Our House" has been dramatised and starts tomorrow at 9pm. Starring Martin Compston and Tuppence Middleton.

I hope the programme will be as good as the book. For anyone who hasn't read it, the premise, inspired by a real case, is when a couple find that their house, they have bought, lived in and lovingly restored, has been sold behind their backs in a sophisticated scam.

Yes she does look like Kate, I though that myself but I think it is because she is very slim, similar haircut, same age>etc

This seems to have been going on for ever and I’ve just realised that there are two more episodes! I probably wouldn’t have bothered with it but DH is absolutely riveted and by the end of each episode I find that I’m on the edge of my seat and I want to know what happens next.

I wondered why such prominence was given to the neighbour’s part in events, although her involvement did have an (unintended?) consequence, (trying to avoid spoilers in case some people haven’t watched it yet).

I'm enjoying it and I've an idea how it will end but I could be wrong. Probably am! Love the house and Fi has worn some really nice clothes.

NotTooOld Thu 10-Mar-22 16:53:10

Agree about Fi's clothes. Unfortunately you need to have very small boobs to wear them, so that's me out!

Like someone above, I find it impossible to hear what the younger dark woman is saying. Don't they teach actors to project their voices any more? The mumbling is most annoying.

Anybody else thinks Tuppence Middleton looks a bit like DOC?

I thought she looks like Myleene Klass, with a bit of Susan George around the mouth.

Tina49 Thu 10-Mar-22 21:38:31

Ooh, nearly over - very tense!!

Callistemon21 Thu 10-Mar-22 21:45:29

I do wish someone would flick on a light switch!

Callistemon21 Thu 10-Mar-22 22:00:39

Oh!

Tina49 Thu 10-Mar-22 22:01:19

Yes, oh!

BigBertha1 Thu 10-Mar-22 22:26:17

Oh that was that then. Glad it's over.

I read the book but couldn't remember the ending.
Why are dramas always shot in the dark these days? Are they trying to save money on electricity?

love0c Fri 11-Mar-22 06:31:41

A bit of a letdown ending I thought.

A bit of a letdown ending I thought.

I thought it was a clever twist I hadn't thought of.

I stuck with it until halfway through the second episode but lost the will to live.

She's divorcing the husband, but still inviting the neighbour to babysit as though nothing happened? Then I googled the plot and found out what was going to happen...

Life's too short !! smile

Me too. It was when she dismissed her blind date with the phrase "he suggested a Sunday afternoon at the British Museum" and I thought "that sounds perfect", that I realised it wasn’t for me.

Millie22 Fri 11-Mar-22 08:36:50

I'm a bit mixed up about the end with all the scrambling about in the flat. Those poor boys though. I don't think I'll bother reading the book now.

We quite enjoyed this. Didn’t see that ending coming we had a completely different theory. Didn’t like seeing Rupert Penry Jones as a baddie it didn’t seem to fit.

I enjoyed it but found it difficult to follow the suicide message at the end.

Sweetpeasue Fri 11-Mar-22 09:24:29

Long time since I read the book and enjoyed it. Really looked forward to this but gave up after 2nd episode. As volver said, why invite the woman that husband had been unfaithful with to babysit? It all seemed a bit weird and confusing.

Witzend Fri 11-Mar-22 09:37:53

I’ve read the book, and we watched the first episode last night.

However I was disappointed. Both husband and wife looked miscast to me - she looks rather too young to be married with 2 children of those ages, especially being a young married with a house like that! Just not realistic nowadays.

It’s the 2nd time recently that I’ve thought a main female character looked about 23 max, when according to the storyline she’d be more like mid 30s-ish. Don’t tell me they couldn’t find anyone of a more suitable age for the part.

I don’t think he suits the role at all, either. I’d have imagined him rather more suave and smooth.
Not sure we’ll be watching any more. Dh wasn’t over-enthralled, either.

Tina49 Fri 11-Mar-22 09:38:46

why invite the woman that husband had been unfaithful with to babysit?. I do agree that was odd, though I guess the premise was that prior to the incident, they had been good friends. However, if, gradually and eventually, she was able to forgive the neighbour (who confessed it had been on her initiative), then she should surely have tried to forgive the husband.
A sad ending all round, though (and heaven forbid this happens!), it left possibilities for further stories….!

TillyTrotter Fri 11-Mar-22 09:47:49

I enjoyed it and it kept me guessing until the end.
It was a beautiful home, but 2 million? Astonishing price,
intriguing storyline.

Maggiemaybe Fri 11-Mar-22 09:51:47

Tuppence Middleton is mid 30s though, Witzend. She must just be one of those lucky people who don’t age. envy

Me neither, he's so lovely!

Millie I decided I won't bother reading any of the author's books after watching that.

Yes...us too, and also called ‘ Middleton’. Loved this...totally unexpected ending.
