Farming and meat consumption involves animal cruelty, there's no arguing that it doesn't. The fact that it's gone on for a very long time makes no difference at all.

I've stayed on a farm and farmers are used to it, blind to it - and accepting of it - along with vets.

Of course, what we see on our screens (on this and other programmes like Countryfile) is very much edited, romanticised, cleaned up - and overly sentimental - in an effort to compensate.

I have been reading on the internet today their marriage is on the rocks. Apparently Amanda is constantly away from the farm and Clive thinks they will end in divorce. It might be the truth who knows it's hard to believe anything these days.

People don’t seem to get that you can’t have it both ways. If you want to enjoy following the Owens and their farming life you have to accept that promoting her books and giving talks will take Amanda away from the farm. She started writing before she had nine children. Her popularity grew as her family increased so she responded in a way that has benefitted them financially. The genie is out of the bottle as far as intrusion is concerned so I hope they can find a way to balance their public and private lives. I wish them luck.

Delighted to see the return of one of my favourite programmes tonight at 9pm. I love watching their life on the farm. The children are wonderful.

I'd say the same to Clive if roles reversed, go back to your day job. It's attending to the flock, two legs or four, which is most important.

It's my favourite show on TV and I was so sad to read on here about her marriage troubles. However when you look at her commitments from early September to December she can't possibly be spending much time at home attending to her flock. From Theatre shows to literary events if she manages a weekend on the farm she'll be lucky. I just think she needs to kick all the shows into touch and go back to what she does best, being a mum and shepherdess.

I'm afraid that I am going to agree with the minority on here. I have never really taken to the series and always felt that Amanda came over as a bit self-satisfied and smug. The children are lovely, but somehow everything seems too good to be true. There is something that I can't put my finger on that is just not right.

I agree. I thought she seemed smug and a lover of the limelight, and I didn't believe her descriptions of childbirth. The children are lovely though.

I used to love this programme but i feel its become false now, to 'celebrity'... reading between the lines i dont believe its as idyllic as made out.
Also the fact Clive has 11 children but they're never mentioned seems sad too.
I grew up on a farm and whilst it was an amazing upbringing parts were hard going.

I thought he only had two children from his first marriage and nine with Amanda.

Yes, when your life, your family, are the subject of TV series where everything seems too perfect, then perhaps expecting privacy when cracks start to appear is a false hope.

I only watched the first season and really enjoyed it. Earlier this month Amanda was main speaker at a live event I attended. She was excellent and looked fantastic. I did watch the first episode of the latest series (filmed by herself and the children due to the winter and Covid) which was good. The children appear to be grounded and responsible, each having their own chores, etc. However, I checked out her website and was shocked to see how little time she must spend at home as she is so booked up promoting her new book, the tv series, appearing all over the country giving live talks and attending local news programmes where she is appearing. It did make me wonder how much the family actually see of her.
