I agree that the plot line of this one was somewhat lacking. I don’t care for Morse (didn’t like the “grown up” version much either), have a soft spot for Jim Strange, and agree that dyed in the wool ex-colonial policeman Bright would never have worn his hair that long. It looks very odd.

Perhaps lack of chemistry between characters is due to covid restrictions, and the way they've had to film.

Sadly this series is not as good as previous ones. Definitely no chemistry between the characters.

No it’s a pity, I was looking forward to it I dropped off for 20 minutes but soon caught up with it.

I do agree with what you say about the characters Silverbridge. And would Bright really have grown his hair so long?!

I was very disappointed with the first episode, especially after looking forward to the new series for so long. Didn’t like the new theme tune and found the plot boring. Not at all up to the standard of previous series. Will watch the next one tonight, hoping it’s an improvement. Didn’t the composer of the old theme tune, Barrington Pheloung, die a while back? Perhaps they can’t continue to use his music but they could surely have done better than what we heard last week.

I didn't pay heed to the music either but was also bored with the story and switched off after Morse took his eye off the ball, as it were. CI Bright would surely have retired by now and isn't it curious how Joan Thursday alway ends up involved in the case somehow? I do like Dr DeBryn though and Dorothea Frasil (Abigail Thaw) who looks more and more like her father every series.

I never even noticed it...but will when I watch the next episode tonight.
What we did find was that there seemed little chemistry between the characters, and put that down to a break since the last series.
It had the most boring plot too, in fact DH nodded off half way through.
