Puzzler61

Claudia looks very pretty tonight in her dress. It’s flattering I think.

But the ‘drop’ sleeves make me want to pull them up.
They would annoy me.

Calendargirl Sat 19-Dec-20 18:26:18

I’m pretty sure Jamie will be first out, but don’t know why the judges picked that ‘joke’ type dance.

Just not very appealing.

Do you mean HRVY’s ? Or Jamie’s Sparklefizz ?

I thought HRVY’s was brilliant, Jamie’s not so much.

Sparklefizz Sat 19-Dec-20 18:22:43

I know that was the dance the judges asked for, but in my view it's an amateurish performance for the final.

Beauregard Sat 19-Dec-20 18:14:54

Anyway... What a start

Sparklefizz Sat 19-Dec-20 18:14:49

Go HRVY !! F a bu l o u s!

Puzzler61 Sat 19-Dec-20 18:12:01

Yes, ballet trained I believe Casdon

Casdon Sat 19-Dec-20 17:59:59

To be fair I did say ‘man’ of his age, apart from Ed Balls the others mentioned are women- and although Ed (at 49) was very entertaining, his dancing wasn’t a patch on Bill’s.

They did make a thing of Pamela’s age at the time, and she was excellent I thought. Wasn’t Debbie a professional dancer when younger?

Sparklefizz Sat 19-Dec-20 17:47:24

And Lulu was 70 and her age was never ever mentioned, although someone else in the competition who was younger than her (can't recall who) was continually told he was good for his age.

Ellianne Sat 19-Dec-20 16:54:48

Ed Balls too wasn't far off Bill's age.

Puzzler61 Sat 19-Dec-20 16:53:28

Lesley Joseph and Debbie McGee had plenty of energy too, representing “older ladies”.

Chardy Sat 19-Dec-20 16:43:57

Pam Stephenson was in her 60s when she got to the final. I don't remember her getting all this 'aging adulation'.

gillgran Sat 19-Dec-20 16:30:17

Looking forward to the final tonight.
I don't much mind who wins, I enjoy the whole show, music, lighting, settings & the dancing ,of course!!

I thought that there was a previous thread on SCD, then saw that it had reached a thousand posts..!!
Well done KittyL & Puzzler

Casdon Sat 19-Dec-20 15:15:03

Ellianne you could be right with Colin Firth, if he’s got the timing he would be good for Strictly. Not so sure about Pierce Brosnan. I do like it when those people everybody has low expectations of turn out to be good, it’s always nice to see anybody who’s over 40 and not picture perfect do well, and I think it should be taken into account how much hard graft they have to put in to do what comes more naturally whilst you’re still young and fit - it would be a boring show otherwise.

Grannynannywanny Sat 19-Dec-20 14:38:45

I’d be happy with either Maisie or HRVY to win. I’d be disappointed if it’s down to whoever has the biggest fan base and that turned out to be Bill.

I’m looking forward to it. Thank you for the 6pm reminder. I’d forgotten about the earlier start.

WOODMOUSE49 Sat 19-Dec-20 14:21:18

We're about to watch the final tonight so I'll give my 3 votes to someone whose performance I enjoyed the most.

I do suspect Bill will win as he's got a huge following but it could be HRVY as he's certainly grown to have a big following too. We'll not know how close voting is but I think it will be.

Enjoyed the whole show and credit to all those who've made it possible for us to be entertained with a mainly live show (Saturdays).

NotAGran55 Sat 19-Dec-20 14:10:34

It’s a popularity contest now so anything is possible .

I recently listened to a Craig RH autobiography and he said that in his opinion there should have been different winners in the years that Joe McFadden and Caroline Flack won , but the general public thought otherwise.

Kim19 Sat 19-Dec-20 14:00:09

Fingers crossed for Harvey here. He's warmed my cockles with his enthusiasm and positive attitude in one so young and already an achiever. Did see AL Webber mention him on a chat show (Graham Norton?) so his future is well earmarked. My admiration is for Janette who has spotted and stretched his talent. Her choreography, enthusiasm, energy and encouragement are beyond reproach and I already consider her the winner. I'll use my phone to put money where my mouth is tonight. In general, I agree that this has not been the most inspiring of Strictlies but I'm impressed with what they've all managed and been prepared to sacrifice against the odds. Certainly made my Saturday evenings enjoyable.

Ellianne Sat 19-Dec-20 13:50:34

Ooh and Liam Neeson.

Ellianne Sat 19-Dec-20 13:49:58

do you know men who are fitter or potentially better at dancing at the standard he is doing at that age?
I think Pierce Bronson and Colin Firth made a pretty good attempt at singing and dancing in Mama Mia (2) * Casdon*. They must have been in their 50s at the time!
For me Bill was a surprise at the beginning, but I feel he has plateaued and is now a bit samey samey.

Casdon Sat 19-Dec-20 13:27:31

That’s a really odd comment Ginny, what do you mean- aren’t we talking about the dancing?

ginny Sat 19-Dec-20 13:23:38

Dance not advance !!!

ginny Sat 19-Dec-20 13:23:13

I hope people remember it is advance contest . Not a contest to see who they would like to have dinner with.

Casdon Sat 19-Dec-20 13:00:41

I think Bill is remarkable for 55, I don’t understand why some of you think what he’s achieved isn’t - he’s done far better than any other man of his age ever on Strictly that I can remember - do you know men who are fitter or potentially better at dancing at the standard he is doing at that age, is it just me who doesn’t?

I don’t rate Maisie, I hope she doesn’t win, So my money is on Hrvy, he’s a lovely dancer, and it would also be so deserved for Janette if they pull it off.
