Just seen a trailer for this new mini series, starting on December 27th on BBC 1 I assume.

Diana Rigg in one of her last roles.

Don’t know if it will match up to the original film starring Deborah Kerr, but something new to look forward to over Christmas.

I was wondering how the nuns' habits could be so pristine with no running water or electricity.

Very slow. I agree Ruth will jump and Clodagh will ride off with Mr. Dean into the sunset to live happily ever after.

EllanVannin Tue 29-Dec-20 11:40:50

On another channel was the Marigold Hotel. grin

Callistemon Tue 29-Dec-20 11:33:52

Ps I can spell Clodagh but forgot her name for the moment.

Callistemon Tue 29-Dec-20 11:32:38

In a couple of sentences, say what you think should be happening, or what you hope happens!

Young prince marries young girl, takes over palace and throws out the nuns.
Gemma Arterton and Sister Ruth have a struggle on the bell tower (can't tell you quite what happens as I have my hands over my eyes and feel sick) but Ruth falls over, plunges down the Himalaya. Gemma runs away with Dean, her hair grows back and they live happily ever after because her passionate nature reveals itself.

The other nuns stay there and run the school for the Prince and his now expanding harem and children, smiling even more happily as they get frostbite and go steadily nuts.
They must all smell dreadful too, no hot showers or baths, just a bowl of ice covered water.

Jane10 you're spot on! grin

Jane10 Tue 29-Dec-20 08:12:04

My main thought is that they must all be freeeeezing!
It is slow but that's because the book could be retitled 'Five go nuts in Nepal'!

Calendargirl Tue 29-Dec-20 07:45:22

This is for everyone who thinks it’s slow and ‘going nowhere’.

OK, here’s your chance before tonight’s episode.

In a couple of sentences, say what you think should be happening, or what you hope happens!

(For those of you who haven’t seen the film or read the book, therefore knowing what does happen).

Yes, indeed, BlueBelle! The families I encountered were so polite and respectful and supported events in school. Their native dancing put my country dancing group in the shade!

BlueBelle Tue 29-Dec-20 07:38:25

It was so slow last night I m going to see it through but a little bit disappointed it seems to have been two hours of nothing much just meandering around the same thing and getting nowhere
I had such hope but I like watching Mr Dean

(ashcombe when I was in the Far East we were station with some Gurkhas what lovely people My Dad had such respect for them in WW2 )

kittylester Tue 29-Dec-20 07:34:41

Oh, I'm so glad others gave given up!

Ashcombe Tue 29-Dec-20 07:34:13

I’m enjoying watching something set in a place I will never visit and, as has already been said, the scenery is stunning! My last teaching post was in a school that included an MOD base which was home to a Gurkha regiment so it’s fascinating to see a little of their homeland.

Coolgran65 Tue 29-Dec-20 07:20:50

When they walked up that outside staircase to the bell tower my stomach flipped and my legs went weak.

Yes slow. I fell asleep last night.

Doodledog Tue 29-Dec-20 00:43:00

Yes, me too. I’ve invested two hours in it up to now, so I’ll see it through, but it’s not as good as I expected it to be.

Grannynannywanny Tue 29-Dec-20 00:02:04

I’ll watch again tomorrow to see the final episode. But tbh if there were any more episodes still to watch I think I’d have given up on it tonight.

trisher Mon 28-Dec-20 23:27:11

It is a bit slow, but Mr Dean is definitely watchable. The new sister is Gina Mckee another good actor.

BlueBelle Mon 28-Dec-20 23:22:17

Nor mine... but not bad at all

Callistemon Mon 28-Dec-20 23:19:36

Who is he? Not been on my radar before

Oh - married to Emily Mortimer.

BlueBelle Mon 28-Dec-20 23:17:06

Umm agree there Callistemon not bad umm
It’s a bit slow though only got tomorrow to go

Callistemon Mon 28-Dec-20 22:43:36

And also cut out the gazing dreamily into the eyes of the hairy bloke, unless she does want trouble
Although I can't really blame her

Moonlight113 Mon 28-Dec-20 22:41:24

I think Sister Clodagh could lighten up a little. And also cut out the gazing dreamily into the eyes of the hairy bloke, unless she does want trouble. Although, of course, that would at least provide a storyline, which is rather lacking so far.

I've never read any Rumer Goddem books. I don't think I would like her writing.

Floradora9 Mon 28-Dec-20 22:24:04

Oh joy of joys I have found a copy of the autobiography I mentioned " Two Under The Indian Sun " online and managed to buy a used copy. I really loved this book so am really looking forward to reading it again.

Doodledog Mon 28-Dec-20 21:49:37

I'm not finding it at all scary, but it is certainly slow.

Floradora9 Mon 28-Dec-20 21:46:41

Grandmabatty I loved her autobiography she wrote with her sister " Two Under The Indian Sun " . I must have read it decades ago .

Oldbat1 Mon 28-Dec-20 20:14:47

I felt it was a bit slow. Scenery was lovely. Only managed 40mins before I gave in.

MayBee70 Mon 28-Dec-20 20:00:34

I thought it was a bit slow. It looked a bit scary, too. I do a lot of walking on my own in the dark so have to be careful what I watch. Dare I carry on watching it? I’ve loved Gemma Arterton though, ever since Tess of the d’Urbevilles.
