Well we traditionally have a thread - so I am starting one.

All mothers of contestants are strictly (!!!) barred!

I'm rooting for JJ Chalmers! (I hope that's his name)

Millie22 Sun 22-Nov-20 19:58:08

Here's hoping.

EllanVannin Sun 22-Nov-20 19:58:24

No surprise as the claws were out last night. Some women,eh ?

LullyDully Sun 22-Nov-20 20:03:55

Thank goodness

Sparklefizz Sun 22-Nov-20 20:04:10

Phew !!!!
Blimey, she would have saved Maisie shock

ginny Sun 22-Nov-20 20:06:25

Well, I’m sorry to see Caroline go.
JJ should have been in the dance off. He is nowhere near as good as the others.

Ellianne Sun 22-Nov-20 20:07:11

Johannes looked genuinely upset.

Callistemon Sun 22-Nov-20 20:08:47

She is a good dancer but the acting detracted from that.

Sparklefizz Sun 22-Nov-20 20:11:12

And even acting right to the end with practically taking a curtain call.

Grannynannywanny Sun 22-Nov-20 20:11:18

Tess praised Caroline for bringing theatre to Strictly. But to be honest that was what I found most off putting.

rafichagran Sun 22-Nov-20 20:18:21

I disagree with the comments about Caroline. Dance and drama go hand in hand. I thought she was professional and gracious in defeat tonight.
I would like to see Bill and Oti win, but I am warming to HRVY.
I have to say I am surprised by the Caroline dislike.

Puzzler61 Sun 22-Nov-20 20:20:11

The “final dance” was a bit much.
Caroline’s been an actress for more than 40 years so she doesn’t know how to turn it off.

TONKATOL Sun 22-Nov-20 20:21:32

I know she grated on a number of others, but I did like Caroline. However, for me, there was no contest between them. I smiled when Shirley said she would have saved Maisie - after last Saturday she was probably warned.

I was pleased to see Craig giving Maisie such positive comments before the dance-off. He obviously knows that Shirley has it in for Maisie and disagrees. I have always liked Craig - like in most shows with judges, he is painted as the evil villain but he does usually give constructive critiscm and he is usually fair.

At this rate, JJ will make it to the final. It seems the judges scores have no impact at all in the results. I really hope Maisie rallies again and has a great dance next week. About time she scored a 10.

Callistemon Sun 22-Nov-20 20:40:05

I like Caroline but I think she was the 'fun' contestant never supposed to win.

Please - no-one called HRVY can be taken seriously - can they?

rafichagran Sun 22-Nov-20 20:49:32

Yes I like HRVY, but I agree the spelling of the name is a bit daft.

BBbevan Mon 23-Nov-20 04:01:12

We had a child at school called SX . Just plain daft.

Calendargirl Mon 23-Nov-20 07:30:13

Seeing as all the judges saved Maisie, which was the correct decision of course, it rather makes a mockery of all the gushing and compliments after her first dance.

How Shirley found it so hilarious! It was cringey, and although it was meant to be a parody, I know, if that had been a 50 something male contestant drooling over his much younger female partner, there would have been complaints all round, certainly on GN.

Craig seems so much nicer this series, still very honest, but kinder with it. I think he is so much more relaxed without Bruno’s histrionics down the judging line. In previous series, you only had to glance at Craig’s face and see him tapping his pen furiously to know how irritated he was by Bruno hogging the show.

DanniRae Mon 23-Nov-20 08:35:00

I much prefer it without Bruno showing off and 'accidentally' falling off his chair or waving his arms about! I liked Anton being on the panel too but I think Motsi gives a more balanced view.

Kandinsky Mon 23-Nov-20 08:44:02

Agree with every word you said Calendargirl

I said to my husband last week when Caroline licked her dance partners arm, that if a man had done that to his female partner people would have probably accused him of sexual harassment, I know for sure there would have been complaints.

Sparklefizz Mon 23-Nov-20 08:59:39

I agree, there would have been uproar if a male partner had done the licking ... and rightly so.

Shirley has a younger man in her life so perhaps that colours her viewpoint.

It will be very hard to vote anybody out next week (except possibly JJ) as they are all getting very good now.

Alegrias2 Mon 23-Nov-20 09:18:37

I thought Caroline's routine was very ill-judged, and I actually quite like her and her dancing before. They were quite right to save Maisie.

eazybee Mon 23-Nov-20 09:44:39

Caroline Quentin had gone as far as she could, and I enjoyed her routine and thought her dancing was of a high standard; graceful, elegant and entertaining.
Maisie is a hoofer; energetic and flashy but with heavy legs and feet. I don't think she has fulfilled her early promise.

NotSpaghetti Mon 23-Nov-20 10:01:13

Maisie is full of life, it's true.
I couldn't put my finger on what was wrong yesterday except that I find her a bit stompy - so yes, that's exactly what it must be, easybee - she has heavy legs and feet.

Maybe she'll get lighter with practice.

merlotgran Mon 23-Nov-20 10:42:53

I watched the Young Chorister of the Year semi-finals on Songs of Praise yesterday. One of the singers had a voice that was completely unsuited to choral singing and John Rutter pointed out she should try and tame her vibrato.

Barbara Bonney, my all time favourite soprano, has the perfect balance. IMO

merlotgran Mon 23-Nov-20 10:45:08

Ooops! Sorry, wrong thread. How the heck did that post get on here?? grin

Sparklefizz Mon 23-Nov-20 10:45:59

Re Caroline, I have seen a clip online of part of her dance routine and she also runs her hands down each side of his body! shock Whatever were they thinking (or did she just improvise)?
