Just saw yesterday that there’s a new series, and, with the exception of the cricket commentator and the actress from Coronation Street, I had heard of them all!
Britt Ekland should have stayed away from the plastic surgeons, but they seem quite interesting.

It's usually the quieter ones that I find most interesting. I wish they'd edit them in more than the larger characters that the producers fixate on.

Oh good, I hadn’t realised it has missed a week. I will catch up now. I really enjoyed the first one and agree about Duncan’s hair dye. At least he hasn’t a beard. I thought Susie was lovely in the first ep and is probably a good type of friend to have. Loving Zandra’s colour sense and style. I am fascinated by india And enjoyed the previous series. With this and my shameful enjoying of “Killing Eve” I am set :-)

Britt is definitely a good advert for staying away from cosmetic surgery. She looks positively grim and would definitely frighten the horses! grin

Loving this thread. It’s a bit like sitting on sofa’s chatting.
Like gogglebox ??

Puzzler61 Fri 15-May-20 09:57:16

I love your quip about Britt eating herself if she was chocolate Jane10 ?
I must remember and use that phrase.

Calendargirl Fri 15-May-20 09:51:33

Jane10

She was a ‘Bond Girl’, did you not realise that?

I expect Diana Rigg, Ursula Andress, the late Honor Blackman, Jane Seymour et al still think of themselves as Bond Girls as well.

I think my favourites are Susie, Barbara { two apparently gentle ladies} and Blowers. He is such fun and i love the sound of his voice. Zandra is 'old school' down to earth with no airs and graces.

Jane10 Fri 15-May-20 09:24:19

Especially in the heat I suppose Zandra's melting extreme make up makes her look ridiculous. She blended in quite well with all the wildly dressed and made up festival goers.
Thank goodness for Barbara Dick son.

Chewbacca Fri 15-May-20 09:13:29

Paul Elliot seems to be finding the extreme heat more difficult to cope with than some of the others and I feel quite sorry for him. I'm finding Britt is becoming a bit embarrassing; the overly dramatic eyelash fluttering and clutching on to Bannatyne is becoming a bit cringey. I'm really liking Zara and Barbara's laid back, calm acceptance of all their new experiences.

Jane10 Fri 15-May-20 09:08:16

If Britt was chocolate she'd eat herself! Sad really. All she ever had was her looks and her marriage to Peter Sellers. She wasn't a very good actress. Goodness knows what the work she keeps referring to actually is.
Blowers and the cricket buffs were heart warming. That Nick Cotton one isn't endearing is he? Not surprised he lives on his own judging by his performance in the kitchen. I didn't fancy that meal much either. It would have been stone cold too after he took all those photos.

tanith Fri 15-May-20 08:10:50

I had to smile when Britt kept referring to Duncan as her ‘eye candy’, I did wonder if that’s why he pulled out of the train trip, but then he went how on earth did he get there so fast?
Also smiled when referring to her looks she said ‘I wouldn’t scare the children would I?’.
I’m thoroughly enjoying it though.

Puzzler61 Fri 15-May-20 07:39:42

I watched last night and really enjoyed it.
I could almost feel the sticky heat and was amazed by the colours, the buildings, the street life and the overnight train trip and then there is the tranquility of the house and garden, yoga and worship.
This is a very amiable group Calendargirl, no stand-out, loud people. Britt has a lot to say but she doesn’t look for conflict (well not so far).

Calendargirl Fri 15-May-20 07:27:48

Thought last night’s episode was enjoyable. The cricket match with Henry commentating was an absolute delight. I was with Barbara in feeling tearful about how good he was with his little army of ageing cricket fans,

Britt has obviously targeted Duncan as the hunk of the group. She still sees herself as gorgeous as when she married Peter Sellars all those years ago, but good on her at 78.

They seem a very amiable group, all with different hopes and views on life and getting older.

Jane10 Fri 08-May-20 09:27:57

Agree re Duncan's hair. A most unconvincing colour!

Alishka Fri 08-May-20 08:29:04

Seeing Henry Blofeld has triggered memories of all the school cricket matches I watched when ds was a schoolboy, the radio on low listening to Blowers and Jonners commentating on the Real Stuff.grin Got quite nostalgic..
Zandra Rhodes is Ace, too.

Calendargirl Fri 08-May-20 06:41:30

Just caught up with the first episode.

Duncan looks quite lean and fit for his age, but should go easy on the hair dye. Like Paul McCartney, a natural grey/white would look so much better.

Puzzler61 Tue 05-May-20 10:48:48

I enjoyed the first ep of this new series and have watched others.

It’s such a fascinating country of great contrasts - but I know I wouldn’t survive the humid heat for long.
And if that didn’t get me the rampaging traffic would!

Can’t seriously see any of our celebs staying long term in retirement but it makes for interesting TV.

MerylStreep Tue 05-May-20 10:39:11

Can I put in a good word for Duncan Bannatyne. He does an enormous amount for charity. Not just handing over the money but hands on.

Luckygirl Tue 05-May-20 10:28:32

Britt's plastic surgery was unfortunate. How do these surgeon's get away with making people look like freaks?

Calendargirl Tue 05-May-20 10:16:02

Must be so hard seeing yourself age when you have been beautiful in the past, so can see why women like Britt have all these awful cosmetic procedures, even though the results are ghastly.

Better to stay looking older and real. Brigitte Bardot, Sylvia Syms come to mind.

Or die before your time, and stay ever beautiful, like Marilyn Monroe, Diana, Princess of Wales and others.

Humbertbear Tue 05-May-20 07:57:33

I’ve had two trips to India, staying in good hotels but also eating on the trains. At the beginning of our first trip we were told that infections came from the money and not the food. We all used hand sanitizer every time we handled money and no one on either tour suffered from stomach upsets.

Calendargirl Tue 05-May-20 07:31:12

Haven’t watched this yet, will do so soon. Felt really sorry for Britt when she was on the Piers Morgan Show a while back. She spoke about her time with Rod Stewart, and when he dumped her.
He sounded a right cad back then, but it was from her perspective obviously.

Jane10 Mon 04-May-20 20:43:10

I suppose it's all edited down and will highlight the most obviously entertaining bits. I suspect the bigger characters might get lots of camera time which is a pity. The quieter people are often the most interesting.

Grannynannywanny Mon 04-May-20 20:40:02

Britt came across as rather high maintenance in the first episode. Hopefully she’ll settle down. I suppose they’re selected in that way to have a good mix and maybe a little conflict.

My heart was in my mouth watching the traffic scenes. I wonder if they had to sign a waiver absolving the tv company in the event of a road accident.

DanniRae Mon 04-May-20 20:06:07

I love these programmes and this new one looks as if it will be just as enjoyable.
Britt must hate it when she sees photos of herself when she was young and beautiful. Now she just looks weird!
Anyway they all seem a good bunch and I look forward to the next episode grin
