.....went to see it Friday. really enjoyed it...a feel good film. I think everyone was tapping a long with the music.

I think the worst part of the first one was seeing Julie Walters looking such a... well, just not how I'd expect her to look!
Anyway, I'm glad so many people did enjoy it.

I always hated ABBA ( just the music, they are probably lovely people) and so far have resisted all invitations to watch anything that includes their music.

I can’t be the only one surely?

However my husband dives for the door when I put my music on , so it’s probably just me........

Yes the music and scenery carried it and I wasn't disappointed in Cher!
Glad I knew about your baby tanith. Beautiful and so well behaved (definitely added a little something for me!)

Saw it with friends today. We all enjoyed it, some more than others but isn’t that inevitable? For myself I loved it, good to leave a cinema with a smile in my face.

It has taken me hours to work out 'hwga' ?

BlueBelle Mon 30-Jul-18 05:16:20

Blinko The Greatest Showman for me was the worst film I have ever seen I was so close to walking out I found it the most boring childish musical I ve ever wasted my money on

We’re off to a Picnic in the Park tribute band concert this weekend - Queen and Abba. Abba songs always give me a lift, even the sad ones. I’ll try to see the film at the cinema, I love easy watching films which don’t tax the brain.

Blinko Mon 30-Jul-18 09:08:28

BlueBelle it looks like the Greatest Showman could be a marmite film. We haven't seen it yet but it's on the list.

oldwoman70 you are so not alone. The songs stand alone and don’t need a weakly woven storyline once let alone twice. I won’t be seeing it but as I work in a cinema (in the office) I hear it twice a day .... thankfully I have gone home by the third showing. But it is bringing in customers even when weather warm which is all good. That though is what it is about - money. If it makes people as happy as those coming out in our cinema - that’s a good thing too. Just not mine.

Tanith - how exciting to have a member of your family in a film.

I enjoyed the film when I saw it. It was fun.

Willow500 Mon 30-Jul-18 13:35:54

I watched the first 10 minutes of the first one and turned it off - I thought it was dire - I'm not a fan of Abba music either which probably didn't help. My friend is obsessed with it and has seen the second one twice already?!! shock

HootyMcOwlface Mon 30-Jul-18 13:41:18

BBbevan please tell, what does hwga mean then?! I thought it was a misprint!

Shirleyw Mon 30-Jul-18 15:33:53

here we go again :-)

BBbevan Mon 30-Jul-18 18:21:06

Shirleyw has just said. I looked in acronyms first, Silly me ?

Went today to see this with DGD. We both loved it. smile

overthehill Thu 02-Aug-18 08:52:54

Is it about expectation? DC bought hubby cinema vouchers for father's day and we have the meerkat Bogoff so could both get in for a fiver. Looked for something to see and Mama Mia hwga was the only likely one on yesterday.
I never saw the first one, don't particularly like musicals or Abba.
But guess what, we both loved it and came out thinking one of the better films we've seen and we've seen some turkeys.

storynanny Thu 02-Aug-18 10:05:32

I loved it! I really want Julie Walters top that she worewith white jeans, anyoneknowwhwre it is from? Ive googled but no luck so far

callgirl1 Thu 02-Aug-18 22:12:59

I haven`t seen it yet, love all things Abba, the first film was lovely, easy watching entertainment, no deep plot required. The only thing putting me off seeing the new film is the thought of Cher singing Abba.

mcem Thu 02-Aug-18 22:25:42

I love Christine Baranski's hair.
That's exactly how mine should look but just doesn't quite!

Coolgran65 Thu 02-Aug-18 23:30:54

I saw the first one on t.v with DVD. I was home alone and painting the lounge. I played it 3 times and got two coats of emulsion on. Made the time fly past.

I reckon those of us who like it accept it for what it is, great music and not much of a story, but good fun. smile

gillybob Thu 02-Aug-18 23:39:34

It looks like it could be from WhiteStuff storynanny it’s the kind of stuff they do. Fingers crossed ?

SueDonim Tue 07-Aug-18 19:54:04

I've been avoiding this thread in case of spoilers but I've finally seen HWGA with my dd this afternoon! I really enjoyed it, hammy acting, bad vocals and all. And I cried several times - whatever is wrong with me?? grin

Tanith how lovely about Donna's baby! My friend's three children are often in Call the Midwife, and her new baby appeared in the 2017 Christmas special.

Grannyknot Tue 07-Aug-18 19:55:45

storynanny believe it or not, I have a top similar to that one, courtesy of T.K. Maxx. smile

Blinko Tue 07-Aug-18 20:13:56

Just watched the Greatest Showman dvd. Loved it! Just goes to show, what do critics know, huh!

bikergran Tue 07-Aug-18 20:26:21

Hoping to go and see the new one...loved the old one
Yes its "cheesy"
Yes not brill acting
yes singing rather dire
...etc etc ..
but a feel good cheesy film does wonders...no murders/no muggings/no shootings...good old cringe worthy film smile

Got the dvd under the stairs smile
