Most of the reviews I read said it was dreadful but there was one which was quite complimentary. Given what everyone on here has said, it makes you wonder how such a dreadful film got even one good review.

Oh dear, my sister-in-law in Canada phoned on Sunday saying she had seen it with a friend and I should see it too. I will have to ‘forget’ to .look out for it.

We went to the Senior Vue yesterday to see Black Panther, and they’d changed the film. Yes, The Book Club. I was pleased...until I saw it. Oh dear. We just wondered how they decided which of the four actresses got top billing (Diane Keaton, as it happens) and how Mary Steenburgen (amazing figure/legs still btw) came last.

We saw it as a Times freebie. I totally agree, it’s terrible. How four excellent actresses could demean themselves to be in such rubbish, I don’t know.
I can only suppose they have some hefty tax bills to pay !
Jane Fonda has so much plastic surgery, her face is stuck in one position, she was playing a woman of 60, I believe she is 80. Sadly, she’s becoming doddery, and it showed.
I would have walked out, but was in the middle of a row, and didn’t want people to think I was being a prude and disapproving of the constant, rather than the acting!

DD said much the same.

Just got back from seeing this film cost £14.50- total waste of money, terrible film. These are four good actresses who seemed to have forgotten how to act and as for the scriptwriters well!!! Don't waste your money, wait for it to be on Netflix or whatever.hmm.
