Ladies in Lavender

I love that film too - didn't watch it today as it was on a few months ago and I had seen it then. As you say seacliff - great to see something different and what a bonus the Cornish scenery!

I too love that film. When my OH and I saw it, it came as a total surprise; we both love music and OH used to play the violin, so we were totally charmed by it.

I have never forgotten that wonderful scene when Judi Dench's character is talking about her missed opportunity for love and sex as so many men died during the war - beautifully acted and so poignant.

This is one of the very few films I love. I have never been much of a film fan, but this one is remarkable. It is so subtle and perfectly acted, and it’s not often you see a film or play about the feeelings of elderly ladies, or about serious music for that matter. I have seen it several times, and find more in it each time. Quite wonderful.

I must find out who came up with the idea. It isn’t based on a book as far as I know.

Yes, I enjoyed it too but I didn't understand how the young man came to be in the water. Did I miss something? I did nip out to the local shop for a bottle of wine!

Ursula assumed it was a shipwreck, but no, we weren’t told. It wasn’t the sort of drama that gave explanations. We also learned nothing of his family. I only noticed these things about the third time I watched it, because I was so caught up in the emotions.

Last night I found myself wondering if Adam ever got his violin back, and whether the concert at the end was played on that violin. It seemed a remarkably high quality instrument for someone like Adam to own.

I don’t think any of these things matter.

I did however, watch the interview with Dame Judy and the other Dames. That was good too.

Yes - the whole means by which a clearly brilliant violinist could drop off the map without something being in the papers or someone coming looking for him is not explained. And he himself does not talk about his family/teachers etc. I am prepared to allow this as poetic licence as it is such a brilliant film - and Miriam Margoyles was great in it as well.

Because I read about this film on here this morning I watched it on catch-up.........and I loved it, so thank you to all who posted about it. A lovely start to a lovely sunny day

We used to live by the sea in Cornwall - Happy days! A beautiful film, well worth watching.

I don't watch many films, but this was special. I'm glad I've discovered it, rather late in the day. I wonder what other great films I may yet discover!

Have you seen "Sense and Sensibility" seacliff? That's one of my favourite films and I am not a great film watcher either.
