Anyone else watch John Cleese in this tonight? I was looking forward to it but it was a little disappointing. DH thought it was dreadful. I'm hoping it will improve as we go along.

Each episode was worse than the previous, absolute rubbish! I kept watching thinking it might improve but no such luck! Thank goodness it has finished, hope there won't be another series.

Grim. The son looks about the same age as the mother.

Jalima1108 Mon 26-Feb-18 20:02:09

It could have been good ..... a good cast, a storyline with some potential but oh dear

I didn't see last night's episode

varian Mon 26-Feb-18 19:23:17

If us Grannies think it's awful - as we all seem to- can you imagine how dreadful it must seem to younger folk?

OldMeg Mon 26-Feb-18 19:15:48

Dire!

Atqui Mon 26-Feb-18 18:18:42

Can't believe it was supposed to be funny!

farview Mon 26-Feb-18 16:50:42

Watched half of it and was cringing...shan't watch it again ?

Greenfinch Mon 26-Feb-18 09:52:47

I watched the last. five minutes. Dreadful.Just shouting and screaming as far as I could make out.

Auntieflo Mon 26-Feb-18 09:18:03

I agree with Gillybob, the cast could do with a much better script. I watched last week, but not yesterday.

kittylester Mon 26-Feb-18 08:02:20

We won't watch again either. I really dislike John Cleese - he appears to have very few redeeming featured.

gillybob Mon 26-Feb-18 07:35:47

The cast is excellent . The script is rubbish .

Eloethan Sun 25-Feb-18 23:54:11

Jjudging by tonight's offering it isn't getting better. Some of the one-to-one exchanges looked and sounded so awkward and wooden. Don't think I'll bother again.

TwiceAsNice Sun 25-Feb-18 23:27:07

Really awful was disappointed as I usually like Alison Steadman. Jason Watkins was particularly dreadful but with such a poor script none of them had a chance really. Lasted 10 minutes won't be watching again!

callgirl1 Sun 25-Feb-18 22:48:08

I haven`t seen it at all, but caught the last 5 minutes tonight and was glad I hadn`t watched it.

varian Sun 25-Feb-18 22:45:14

I watched the secon episode tonight. It wasn't any better.

Day6 Sat 24-Feb-18 23:10:37

I'll stick with it because I like Cleese and Steadman, but I thought the first episode was very poor. The script was awful and the (unfunny) middle aged son and DIL dragged it down even further.

OldMeg Wed 21-Feb-18 08:15:53

Not brilliant was it. The son and DiL were particularly awful, but then what could you do with a script lik that.

NanKate Wed 21-Feb-18 07:17:40

About not bout ?‍♀️

NanKate Wed 21-Feb-18 07:17:17

I think I lasted bout 3 minutes then gave up.

BlueBelle Wed 21-Feb-18 06:33:18

I didn’t watch it but really can’t stand John Cleese just thought I d add that ?

Eloethan Tue 20-Feb-18 23:49:39

Alison Steadman was great in her ex-husband Mike Leigh's screenplays - Abigail's Party, Nuts in May, Life is Sweet, etc. etc., and she has done a lot of other good stuff.

There are probably fewer comedy scripts containing older characters and less work for older actors to choose from.

I too found John Cleese's grating voice very distracting,
although I thought his acting was OK. The idea of the son coming back to live with his Mum is, I think, quite a good one and probably quite relevant these days, but the son's behaviour is so ridiculously childish that it isn't remotely funny, just irritating.

lemongrove Tue 20-Feb-18 21:53:56

All in it are good actors, so it must have been the script and plot that let it down.
Alison Steadman has looked and sounded the same in every tv programme for years and years, a shame as she is so much better than that.

Eloethan Tue 20-Feb-18 19:39:08

So did I Floradora

nanaK54 Tue 20-Feb-18 18:35:49

What a disappointment, think we managed about ten minutes....

Floradora9 Tue 20-Feb-18 18:32:08

Oh so nice to see Peter Egan looking as suave as ever . I just loved him in Ever decreasing circles .
