Has any one been watching this on BBC4? I have just watched the last two episodes, and am confused. Catherine, who was kidnapped, had a baby, and was missing for three years, kept saying that she had had a son. Yet in this last part, she was saying daughter.??? Can anyone put me out of my misery please ?

Yep! Me too. I thought she was going to be reunited with a toddler son and how did she know the crying baby girl was hers?

The end was bonkers. Shame because it was a gripping thriller to begin with.

The last 2 episodes were utterly ridiculous - why didn’t she alert the police and ask for help? They could have kept back until she knew where her husband was.

So many detective books and tv series are based on one person going it alone against all the rules, an early example being Rebus. Are we supposed to admire them? I think not.

It was a son wasn't it?

I ve only watched the first three so far enjoying it (ish) but finding it very far fetched and a bit confusing at times

I've got the last 2 episodes still to watch. Found it copied much of the style of the scandi drama The Bridge - slim female quirky lead who drives classic car, hair unkempt, personal life difficult. I know we're supposed to 'suspend disbelief' but kept yelling at the box 'you wouldn't do that!'.

When Catherine was shown holding her child close to her, and also when she approached her home, the child did look like a boy, (hair cut) but the sub-titles said 'she' a couple of times. Maybe they got it wrong? The sub-titlers (is that a word? I mean. Oh well, never mind, it's all finished now, or is it?

Yes, Auntieflo , I wondered what happened to all the children , that surely can't be the ending ? I got confused too - I might have to watch it over the holiday to fathom it out .

I've been watching it but need to catch up with last night's due to drifting off. I remember seeing the first "Witness" series a while back. I love French dramas, I'm looking forward to the return of "Spiral" the police drama, the red haired actress who played Catherine features in this as a lawyer. I believe another French crime/mystery, "Missing by the Lake" started back in the week on More4, so may well give that a go too. Never get tired of hearing French smile

Starbird, she couldn’t ask for help because she didn’t know where she was, had no signal(?) and was told by Gier that she would never get to find the children. I was confused, too - so this is DH’s understanding of the events. ?

I also think that he confusion about the sex of the baby comes from whatever computer programme was used to do the sub titles. English words for 'boy' and 'girl' or 'son' and 'daughter' are quite distinctive from each other. but 'fils' and 'fille' are similar so I think the computer didn't recognise the difference in the final episodes. The baby certainly looked like a boy when she brought him home.
I wondered how her husband was going to react because he didn't want the baby.

As soon as she found the phones of the frozen ex boyfriends in the warehouse she could have tried to use one of them, to say where she was, this was before Gier made the deal.
There were a lot of loose ends but I think that was the end.

I thought it was a great series although I never understand French police dramas where the main police officer character does dreadful things to solve the case - and still has a job in the end. In this case Sandra was responsible for Antoine's death and others died because of her actions.

I admit I thought Catherine was looking for a baby boy, but I think originally all she remembered was she'd lost her child. This weekend I just put it down to the memory loss caused by the drugs and that she was remembering more and more about her time in captivity.

At the end she was still alone after all she'd been through. I loved Catherine's daughter's maturity in realising that she would have to make a new relationship with her mother and half sister.

But even the baddie who got shot in the tunnel told Catherine ‘HE is still alive’ Wilma

Auntieflo Mon 18-Dec-17 08:55:29

BlueBelle, I thought he was referring to Eric, Sandra's ex husband. They did find him, in time, at the end, naked and lying on a concrete floor.

WilmaKnickersfit Tue 19-Dec-17 01:35:09

Yes, I thought he was talking about her ex Eric too.

The only thing I would say is that I don't think I would watch something like this on my own because I need someone else to check my understanding with! tchgrin

Wilma tchsmile, a bit like one of the dads on Gogglebox, who when asked if he would watch something again, replied, "only if it comes with instructions"

WilmaKnickersfit Tue 19-Dec-17 15:04:30

I love that! tchgrin
