I'm in the queue for slapping Penhale. I did like Hotel Babylon, but didn't pick up on Penhale in it. Maybe I'll watch it again.

I also like Dc Martins aunt,Ruth Hellingham , oh I think they are all great

Yes. Nice people in a nice location. No guns, bombs, aliens or car chases. Lovely.

I loved Hotel Babylon, Merlot gran.
Also love Doc Martin and all it's characters including Penhale. Pure escapism.

She really did enjoy it and I believe the sea is healing and that helped too.

I wish Penhale could find a girl who would stay with him ?

KatyK Fri 27-Oct-17 19:04:38

I hope she enjoyed it Annie Good to hear that she spent the week laughing smile

Katy, my son in law chose Port Issac because my daughter is a Dr Martin fan, big time, he hoped it would help her grief , she photographed the docs surgery, the owners had cordoned the house off, who can blame them ?

Annie Yes Penhale is refreshing. It was a bonus when we got there to see them filming. We took lots of photos too outside the doc's surgery etc. Port Isaac is a lovely place. We had never heard of it, we just wanted to go to Cornwall again and liked the look of it when we searched. Fortunately when we went it was not so well known. I think it is getting a bit out of hand now tourist wise. One evening outside the pub they use in the series, a group of men set up microphones on the beach and started singing sea shanties. It was wonderful. They later became famous for a while - The Fishermens Friends. So all in all a good holiday smile

Hotel Babylon. It was panned by the critics but I enjoyed it.

lemongrove Fri 27-Oct-17 18:06:22

Yes, he played a Spanish bartender in the hotel programme and was really good.?

Anniebach Fri 27-Oct-17 12:55:40

Katy, Penhale is such an innocent isn't he .

When my daughter stayed there I was having photographs daily, ' me outside Dr Martins house. Me on the beach etc' she said the week there did more to help her get over yet another miscarriage than any talks with the clinic. She spent the week laughing.

KatyK Fri 27-Oct-17 10:35:15

I love Penhale too. We spent a week in Port Isaac where it is filmed too Annie We had no idea until we got there and it just so happened that they were filming at the time. We stood around watching them. Martin Clunes was lovely, chatting and posing for photographs. I didn't ask for a photo but took some sneaky ones of him filming smile When we watch it now, we say 'oo look we had a drink in that pub, oo we went into that shop etc'.

I don't do fridge magnets but confess have one, daughter spent week in the village where it's filmed , brought me back a fridge magnet of Penhale blush

Jane10 Fri 27-Oct-17 08:59:56

He's a terrific character. I remember him being a suave barman in a programme about a big hotel? Or at least the actor was!
Poor Penhale. I think Anniebach should be allowed to look after him.
Oh I do wish I could go to Portwen! It's such a lovely escape from life.

Anniebach Thu 26-Oct-17 22:19:14

Leave him alone, he can't help being stupid angry

Poor man, longs for a friend sad

merlotgran Thu 26-Oct-17 22:10:47

Greyduster Thu 26-Oct-17 22:08:47

Annie bring him round here first - so I can slap him! He drives me bananas!!

Anniebach Thu 26-Oct-17 21:24:59

Blinko Thu 26-Oct-17 20:20:29

Sounds like you want to take him home, Ab! grin

Anniebach Thu 26-Oct-17 17:04:40

Then I will not watch it. I adore Penhale and want to keep him in Port Wen ?

lemongrove Thu 26-Oct-17 16:18:14

Yes Blinko I had to do a double take whilst watching Porridge when he appeared!?He was quite convincing too.
Funny that he came from Doncaster!

Blinko Thu 26-Oct-17 16:11:04

Anyone else spotted that daft PC Penhale from Doc Martin in the new series of Porridge? The hardman, Majid. Scary!
