Strictly's Back

I've just looked at the Strictly line up and wonder if I don't watch enough TV. Who ARE these 'celebrities'? On the picture grid I recognised 3 faces and one extra with a nudge from my OH. I could name only one off the top of my head, but another one because I'd just read about them in an article about Strictly where they were arguing about whether a gay woman should dance with a woman. (She didn't want to; she said she was there to learn to dance, not to make a point about her sexuality, but felt there was pressure on her from the LBTG group.)

It definitely shouldn't gave been Chilly!

ninathenana Mon 02-Oct-17 07:45:04

I was expecting Ruth or Rev. Richard to go.
Susan is a trier but I don't give her long in the competition or Brian.
I knew Debbie had had training but not Alexandra Moocow

Chizzy - flipping phone!

Blinko Mon 02-Oct-17 08:21:11

I read somewhere that anyone who has been through stage school will have had dance training. That means a lot of celebs, not just DmcG.

Blinko Mon 02-Oct-17 08:25:53

Ninathenana, thanks for explaining Kush...

The Rev should have gone in my view - he was AW-FUL! but I suppose he has God on his side. grin and the C of E.

I'm just happy that there's no one that I really can't stand, unlike last year. No names mentioned wink

downtoearth Mon 02-Oct-17 08:58:27

I love chizzy am so dissapointed she is out ...my GD is the image of her so naturally drawn to her,I love her character as Dr Mo in Holby....cant stand Brian Conley he should have gone ...lived Alexandra stunning performance...Debbie McGee may be good but cant stand her smugness...For the men Either Aston or Jonnie...Kevin is a cheeky chappie love him

NotTooOld Mon 02-Oct-17 09:35:25

It was wrong and, I agree, no fault of Chizzy's that she had to move the cereal box around the table before she started dancing. She is a much better dancer than some of the others. Did anyone else think Shirley's cuddle of whosit was embarrassing? I thought whosit looked embarrassed, too, poor bloke.

Oh no! I'm the odd one out again. I couldn't stand Chizzy! I really disliked her in Holby too and heaved a sigh of relief when she left. She must have been relatively unpopular with the great British public too as she obviously didn't get enough votes to save her from the dance off.
The whole programme is on for such a long time. As it's all filmed in one day it must be absolutely knackering for the contestants. Bit silly of the BBC to try to pretend that the results show is somehow live. No wonder it's so easy to find spoilers. That means I don't have to watch again on Sunday. I hope the BBC find a more sensible way of doing it as the numbers of dancers reduce. The public aren't daft!

I hadn't heard of Chizzy I don't watch any soaps, but certainly didn't think she was the worst, I felt very upset for her. It's all quite boring at this stage until they get down to the serious contenders. The highlight on Saturday was Alexandra's dance which was stunning. The behind the scenes chit chat year on year is becoming more and more hackneyed. It's on for too long but standard Saturday night fare now the evenings and drawing in, Strictly has always been synonymous with this time of the year for me.

I don't think Debbie is smug, the judges praise her so why should she pretend not to be pleased . I rather admire her, must be difficult after all those years of being part of a double act , and not an equal part, to step out alone.

I have no idea who most of them are but wouldn't vote for anyone because l liked them in a soap or drama

DanniRae Mon 02-Oct-17 10:28:46

Debbie might be 'stepping out alone' but it's at least the 3rd time she's been on reality shows. She was in a canal boat one (which I enjoyed), Celebrity Masterchef and now "Strictly". But good luck to her for 'getting out there' after her husbands death.

Seeing how no one under 40 has ever won Strictly I am hoping Debbie at least gets to the final stages.

Ana Mon 02-Oct-17 11:14:35

She's 58...confused

devongirl Mon 02-Oct-17 11:34:28

DD and I replayed Katie Derham's dance several times - we couldn't see what was so dire about it, only that there were some small mistakes at the end. Can anyone enlighten us?

suzied Mon 02-Oct-17 12:37:56

I meant no one UNDER 40 has ever won Strictly. Sorry!

suzied Mon 02-Oct-17 12:38:36

Nooo what am I like no one OVER 40! Duh! Blame the phone/ my brain

petra Mon 02-Oct-17 12:57:50

devongirl
What has Katie Derhams dance got to do with this years contest?

DanniRae Mon 02-Oct-17 14:41:32

devongirl - have you got a really old tv? I think it might need updating!

Ana Mon 02-Oct-17 14:44:45

Is Len still on your version of Strictly devongirl? grin

lemongrove Mon 02-Oct-17 14:51:18

?

lemongrove Mon 02-Oct-17 14:52:39

anniebach ‘I have no idea who most of them are’ ?
Me neither!

Charleygirl Mon 02-Oct-17 15:00:37

I do not watch Holby so I had no idea who Chizzy was but she had more rhythm than Brian. I really thought that Ruth would be going. The Rev. whatsit was horrendous. I have also never seen him before.

callgirl1 Mon 02-Oct-17 17:36:49

I thought that it should have been between Ruth, the Rev and Charlotte for the dance off, but also think that Chizzy`s tearful reaction was a bit OTT, all that wasn`t necessary.
My daughter says that she read somewhere that Alexandra had been paying for dance lessons before Strictly started.
