Strictly's Back

I've just looked at the Strictly line up and wonder if I don't watch enough TV. Who ARE these 'celebrities'? On the picture grid I recognised 3 faces and one extra with a nudge from my OH. I could name only one off the top of my head, but another one because I'd just read about them in an article about Strictly where they were arguing about whether a gay woman should dance with a woman. (She didn't want to; she said she was there to learn to dance, not to make a point about her sexuality, but felt there was pressure on her from the LBTG group.)

If the new judge, is it Shirley, leaves as suggested in the newspapers, I would like Anton to take over ? I love his humour.

I don't warm to Alexandra either, she goes all emotional and surprised when getting praise. She is a good dancer though.

Where is Susan Calman when you want her ? I miss her humour.

I don't particularly like Debbie I think she is smug. She was so shocked when she was in the dance off she looked really annoyed that she as there. I also think that last night she wasn't penalised for her mistake whereas others were for theirs. I think the judges, particularly Shirley are biased in her favour

Oh I really want Mollie and Gemma to get through, and either Debbie or Alexandra to go. I can't warm to either of them!

Truly shameful that Alexandra is in dance-off- and the Judges were truy shocked as she is quite clearly the best dancer and got 39? WHY?

jura2 Sun 03-Dec-17 19:56:34

twice the comment 'warm up to' - I thought the competition is about dancing !?!

TerriBull Sun 03-Dec-17 20:08:22

Alexandra cut her teeth on XFactor and tends to over emote which I imagine some find annoying. I think both she and Debbie are perceived to have danced professionally and are therefore not as popular with the public as say Joe who has done very well week on week as an absolute beginner, plus very smiley and comes across as genuine imo. Of course it was a travesty that Alexandra was in the dance off it sould have been Gemma and then Davood should have got through this week.

It’s not really a dance competition it’s an entertainment show which becomes a popularity contest.

kittylester Sun 03-Dec-17 20:31:22

I love Davood! I now hope Joe wins.tchsad

jura2 Sun 03-Dec-17 20:50:47

ah well suzied I'd still hope the best dancer won - and it is certainly and consistently Alexandra.

POGS Sun 03-Dec-17 22:57:54

I couldn't believe either of them were in the dance off but Alexdra was the better dancer.

It's reached that time where the best should go through and it is a dancing contest after all.

If it came down to personality then Susan would have walked it but it isn't.

I still think it should be a Debbie/ Alexandra final but Joe is doing really well and if personality is the important factor to some voters then maybe he will win.

Hardly misfortune, it's not going to affect her life if she doesn't win.

Davood, Molly, Gemma were never going to make the last three. They’ve come on and worked hard but they all lack that ‘something’.

Now Joe has really surprised. He’s what this competition is all about. Making a dancer of someone who, to be frank, at the beginning was a bit lumpen. What a performance on Saturday.

Debbie is amazing for her age and has worked hard to keep her fitness. Alexander’s routine last week was never going to get the public vote. It might have been technically excellent, but that awful costume and those boots made her look hefty and clumpy.

It’s obvious who the judges want to win, but they need to keep an open mind. I’m getting the feeling that Sheila likes to manipulate things in favour of her own favourite.

DanniRae Mon 04-Dec-17 09:18:10

I agree with you Friday - Alexandra looked awful. The dress was so unflattering. I think it must have been designed and made in the dark (was there a power cut?) And I can't believe that they put her in those dreadful boots?? Poor girl - she was riding so high and to be in the dance off again.......................!! Her confidence levels must have plummeted. shock

NotTooOld Mon 04-Dec-17 09:33:39

I'm wondering how Davood managed to dance in that mask. Wouldn't it have been better to do it with makeup? I'm surprised he managed to see well enough to do those complicated lifts.

DanniRae Mon 04-Dec-17 09:42:44

I am not sure but I don't think Davood had the mask on in the dance off? I certainly don't blame him if he removed it because it must have hampered him.

eazybee Mon 04-Dec-17 09:52:24

I am sorry that Davood has gone, although his technique was beginning to falter. He was a lyrical and expressive dancer, responding well to different types of dance and music.
How those two clodhopping girls, lacking musicality and all eyes and teeth, have got as far as they have, puzzles me; I wish the BBC was more open about the voting figures. I suspect that their fan bases, manipulated by their agents, boost their votes. Neither of them deserve to be in the final.

annodomini Mon 04-Dec-17 09:56:28

I'm sure he was wearing the mask right to the end of the show. The performance I loved was Joe's. He really looked the part and acted accordingly - straight from the sleazy clubs of 1930's Berlin. And his samba was impeccable. When the judges had nothing but praise for him, why did they not bring out the '10' paddles? Were they saving those for Debbie and Alexandra?

Friday Mon 04-Dec-17 09:59:46

Davood did wear the mask in the dance off.

Friday Mon 04-Dec-17 10:01:35

Anno I think you’re right. Wasn’t it not Bruno who gave Joe the 10 it deserved? There’s a lot of online twittering about some aspects of the judging.

suzied Mon 04-Dec-17 10:27:34

In the final the judges don’t have a vote do they? It’s all decided on the public vote. I expect Joe will win as he’s the most popular.

DanniRae Mon 04-Dec-17 11:11:19

Yes I'd be happy for Joe to win over Debbie and Alexandra!

Eloethan Mon 04-Dec-17 11:58:30

I don't think it should be a popularity contest.

Although the judges thought Molly was good, I thought it was a boring routine. I thought Davood previously did some very beautiful dancing but his latest one wasn't great - so maybe it was time for him to go.

The judges obviously know all about technical skills and according to them Alexandra's dance was fabulous. It was a complex routine but I thought it looked a bit clompy. Maybe other people did too but to ignore such good marks from the experts seems wrong to me. She was obviously, understandably I think, quite upset to be in the dance off again.

Deedaa Mon 04-Dec-17 18:33:56

I'm glad that it wasn't just me - I didn't think Alexandra's dance was very good. Very clumpy and awkward and the boots were awful. I was very surprised by the judges' marks. It would be very interesting to see the public votes.

Eloethan Sun 10-Dec-17 00:03:10

I think Alexandra and Joe are the best. Debbie is the most graceful and light on her feet but I think Alexandra was slightly better than her this week. That salsa was terrific.

paddyann Sun 10-Dec-17 00:45:53

I dont know what Joe would have to do to get a 10 from Darcy...she said he was PERFECT tonight yet he got a 9 ...doesn't make sense.I do think the judges have their favourites who will be higher marked whatever wrong they do .Debbie was clearly out of her comfort zone tonight yet still marked high
