Anyone going to watch? I don't think I shall like it but will give it a go.

Tegan2 Wed 11-Oct-17 18:08:02

No [I think I said something similar yesterday, about the nice lady who was eliminated but kept running her hands through her hair]. And the one who cut her finger should have had her hair tied back. She's lucky that she got her finger in the fan and not her hair shock.

The hygiene on that programme scares me. We see a number of clips of contestants running their hands through their hair, long hair swishing over the work top and tasting with fingers or double dipping spoons. I expect you will tell me off now for being too picky

Watched little bits no big (can’t bear to miss it type fan) but I like Prue Leith but feel Noel comes across very luke warm nothing to him, very insipid and Sandi doesn’t impress although I think she’s funny in some programmes

re the IT Crowd; I didn't use the computer for several weeks and when I did it didn't work. Of course, I phoned TalkTalk who told me to 'turn it off and turn it back on again'. Which made me chuckle as it's something I do/say all the time since watching the series [but I hadn't turned it off at the switches for fear of nothing working at all]. Of course, I did so and it worked.

I suppose it was at least a level playing field as they all had to battle with the heat. I was very impressed by their efforts with the sfogliatelle, I've often thought of having a go but discretion has stepped in and I've bought them from our local Italian cafe instead!

I do like Sandi and Noel, I even find all their silly little jokes much funnier than anything Mel and Sue did.

'I am a big fan of Noel Fielding and I thought he was wonderful. (Discovered the Mighty Boosh years ago and loved it.) He is without ego and gently silly. Must admit I did not like Mel and Sue (they were so irritating!) and the pairing of Sandi and Noel as much better. I find Sandi very warm, her intellect is beyond question and she is lovely with people. What a surprising but good pairing. They work well together.

I have to say I didn't like the sainted Mary Berry either and much prefer Prue Leith's more direct and less fussy delivery. (I didn't like the BBC's Bake Off team at all. confused ) Paul Hollywood was ok in this - minimal smarm from him, so all in all, I thought it was a great start.

The old Bake Off won't be missed at all, imo.'
...wot she said! agree with everything you said, Day 6. Was glued to the screen tonight watching it [although it seemed so unfair having people cook pastry in that sort of heat..also bothered me that the nice lady who sadly got eliminated kept running her hands through her hair whilst cooking;I assume she was washing her hands as well but they didn't show that]. I was also thinking that, apart from the cooking aspect, do the judges take into account someone having the sort of personality that can take their win forward.

How is Stacey surviving? She must have a charmed life!

LadyGracie Wed 06-Sept-17 17:54:26

I don't like Pru, I quite enjoy Sandi and Noel but I think they're trying too hard, they need to relax

pensionpat Wed 06-Sept-17 14:16:40

We've just watched the whole of The ITCrowd.. Very funny. It's the only thing I have seen Noel in.

Nanabilly Wed 06-Sept-17 14:12:04

I have watched last night's show this morning and laughed my head off at the fortune cookie challenge.
I think all the contestants seem good people but do wish fl o would sort her teeth out. They whistle like they are too big for her mouth.

grannysyb Wed 06-Sept-17 12:16:05

Thought Noel Fielding awful! Both onscreen and voiceover. Thought Prue and Paul OK. The contestants seem a nice bunch.

Sorry to disappoint you, but I 'bagsied' Noel Fielding in 1997, (or it may have been '98)!
He was in a programme called 'Gas' with Lee Mack, Peter Kay and others who have been wiped from my memory.
I don't know what it is about that young man, he's not my normal type at all, but phwoaaar!
When I've had my wicked way with him I shall forward him to you, but I warn you now, he'll be worn out ?

Imperfect27 Wed 06-Sept-17 10:41:27

baking challenges even ... blush

Imperfect27 Wed 06-Sept-17 10:40:53

Second bite yesterday. Because it is formatted, really the only gripes lie with the presenters. Prue Leith not too bad, Sandy fine, but Noel needs to get his confidence up. I think it will probably take a series to settle, but all the essentials are there and I think the baling challenges have been good so far.

Franbern Wed 06-Sept-17 10:36:58

Did watch with record, so fast forwarded all adverts. Found Noel (never heard of him previously) with totally lack lustre and could have done without him. So, he and Sandi were trying to do the same type of jokes, etc that had originally been written for Sue and Mel, they were pretty lame then, dreadful now.
But the basic format is the same, yet something seems to be missing. Perhaps it has just gone on too long and the BBC were clever is selling it just prior before it came to its own BB date!!!

phoenix Sun 03-Sept-17 19:49:01

Oh dear, confession time, but in my defence, it's not only me, there was a piece about it in Shane Watson's column in the DT yesterday.

Noel Fielding, have that boy washed and brought to my tent! blush

Pittcity Wed 30-Aug-17 16:14:50

Nanabilly Wed 30-Aug-17 15:55:59

Forensic analysis from Mary Berry!! Was that the soggy bottom ?

devongirl Wed 30-Aug-17 15:25:27

shysal what is channel 47, please? which broadcaster does it refer to?

TriciaF Wed 30-Aug-17 15:23:23

Thanks shysal smile.

shysal Wed 30-Aug-17 15:19:09

Tricia, GBBO is repeated on channel 47 tonight at 8pm. Hope you can get it.

TriciaF Wed 30-Aug-17 14:59:45

Yes I've just noticed that blush It's Channel 4 we can't get. But you can sometimes find it on another channel number.

devongirl Wed 30-Aug-17 14:43:49

Haven't watched it yet but if I do it'll be on catch-up - omits nearly all ads!

TriciaF note it's on Channel 4 not BBC4!!

SueDonim Wed 30-Aug-17 14:27:34

I'll have to be out of step with most of you and say that I was disappointed. I felt there was none of the warmth of the BBC version and that none of the presenters seemed to have any rapport with each other.

I also missed Mary Berry's 'forensic' analysis when things went wrong, I enjoyed that more sciencey side of her.

I did think the three challenges were very good as I had wondered how they could keep coming up with new ideas!

Deedaa Wed 30-Aug-17 14:24:59

I'm another one who was surprised how much I enjoyed it. I recorded it so the ads weren't an issue and Sandi and Noel seem a good fit. I thought the handbag girl should have gone, she was very nice but everything she did seemed to go wrong.
