Di really enjoted tge first two books but found the 3rd one a bit horrible. (Spoiler alert!) Getting into the mind of a psychopath made me feel sonehow soiled! But I'll watch it if they do it on TV. I was sorry they crammed tge solkworm into two episodes - so much was missed out- and other things added like the drive across fields? Don't remember reading that. Quinns wife (Leonora?) was v good I thought. Also Dodo.
I found it quite enjoyable but I completely lost the plot in that last episode. By the end I no longer knew who was killed, let alone who killed them or why, but found the lead characters so engaging that I didn't mind.
I had read the books and thoroughly enjoyed the dramatization of the Cuckoo's calling & thought the characterisation of both Robin & Cormoran excellent. It's a change for tv characters to be exactly as you imagine. Not so keen on the second adaptation as it was all squeezed into 2 episodes and differed hugely from the story in the book - where was all the snow and the narrow miss in the car? What about the attractive divorcèe?? Im sure there were reasons for this but please stick to the book!!
I really enjoyed it too, didn't have any problems with the sound and think the two leads are great together. There is only one more published book to be filmed so I do hope JK stops faffing about with Harry Potter and gets on with writing Strike.
Charleygirl, I agree that last night's episode seemed rushed and squashed to fit it all into the time allotted. I am reading the book at the moment, and although it's gruesome in places, I will finish it, even though I now know " who dun it", AND the mumbles were back , shame.
Auntieflo I still had sub titles on or I would not have been able to follow it.
Eloethan I totally agree.
It was a whole book wedged into two episodes. Usually I am grumbling because it is maybe 6 episodes and padded out, Another episode would not have gone amiss.
Thing is, the gore is part of the story line. I think it was done really well. Love the way the relationship between Cormoran and Robin is developing. Those two actors are very good together.
Well I looked forward to The Silkworm last night but wasn't so keen on that episode I don't mind gore but...... I ll stick with it and still like Tom Burke
Oh annesixity I am just the same....I often turn stuff off or do not even bother with it having read synopsis in Tv. That's why I am watching the lovely series on BBC about the lifeboat crews. Such wonderful people who seem real heroes and yet completely self effacing.
He certainly grew on me - perhaps I like the rough and ready look. I really enjoyed this drama and look forward to reading the book - which is something I rarely do.
I watched it on catchup and really enjoyed it. I hadn't read the books. However violence is something I abhor so will see how Silkworm goes. At an age when I can't cope with too much unpleasantness. I find enough in the newspapers and tv news.
Elrel Yes, I have read the books and am worried about the violence in the other two. "Cuckoo" was ok. I found "Silkworm" horrible. Anyway, I will give the tv version of "Silkworm" a try but don't want to watch something gross. I have a crush on Tom Burke as the Strike character, and I think he and Robin go very well together.
I found last night's ending a bit weak too. I hate it when one character explains what has happened to another character. That always seems a cop-out.
