We're not really speaking ill of him, I don't think, just not being impressed by the over-the-topness of the BBC news.

whitewave Fri 18-Aug-17 18:13:32

I don't know - that's what my grandmother always said.

I will agree that he wasn't my cup of tea, but he was so popular with millions and as I said he brought laughter and joy to so many so what I think about him isn't relevant really.

Ana Fri 18-Aug-17 18:13:50

And his own over-the-topness.

joannapiano Fri 18-Aug-17 18:21:39

My Dad went to Primary School with him and knew his family and their Garage business.
Dad always said he was older than he claimed.
I enjoyed watching the Generation Game as a child, particularly as he was from our part of London.

I said in my post at 17.28 that I wasn't a fan. Is there room behind the sofa for one more ?

Oldwoman70 Fri 18-Aug-17 18:32:35

I'm another who didn't enjoy his humour or his presentation style, but accept that very many did. I am sorry for his family who will miss him - may he rest in peace.

ninathenana Fri 18-Aug-17 18:35:24

Just expressing an opinion ww no one has said anything derogatory.

KatyK Fri 18-Aug-17 18:35:53

Sad that he's died. He was never my cup of tea but I can't remember a time when he wasn't on the box. RIP Bruce.

petra Fri 18-Aug-17 18:38:32

I thought he was as false as a nine bob note. Did nobody notice he had mean eyes, I always look at people's eyes.
He should have stood down on strictly years ago but was too full of his own importance.

Kittye Fri 18-Aug-17 18:45:12

Loved him. RIP Bruce.

OurKid1 Fri 18-Aug-17 19:25:58

Nellymoser Is there room behind that settee for me ... couldn't stand him. It's sad for his family that he has died, but that's all.

Eloethan Fri 18-Aug-17 19:31:16

He was a very accomplished musician, singer and dancer and had the sort of entertaining and extrovert character needed for shows like the Palladium and the Generation Game.

I didn't like his politics and, yes, he did appear rather self-important and tetchy towards the end of his stint on Strictly but it should be remembered that he was quite elderly by that time.

I give him credit for his long career and accept that I don't know what he was like in "real life", any more than I know what other celebrities and entertainers are like when they are not performing for the camera.

fiorentina51 Fri 18-Aug-17 19:34:13

He wasn't my cup of tea I'm afraid and I thought tonight's news item was ott considering what has been going on around the world over the past 24 hours.
Sad for his family and my sympathy to them. RIP Bruce.

Jalima1108 Fri 18-Aug-17 19:41:48

Nice to see you, to see you ... nice, Brucie

Some of the jokes were very cheesy but the tap dancing was always brilliant! And he was a good entertainer.

RIP Bruce

Jalima1108 Fri 18-Aug-17 19:43:42

I have no idea about his politics and that must have passed me by completely Eloe

A great golfer too as far as I know

phoenix Fri 18-Aug-17 20:05:02

A bit surprising how quickly tonight's programme on BBC 1 was put together and broadcast hmm

Although a friend who worked for the Been outside broadcast unit would regularly attend rehearsals for the Queen Mothers funeral......

merlotgran Fri 18-Aug-17 20:14:01

I love the thought of a Been Outside broadcasting unit grin

Jalima1108 Fri 18-Aug-17 20:16:00

I think they have a lot of programmes pre-recorded for that very reason phoenix

'Right, someone is 3 score years and 10, has had an illness, let's get the programme ready for broadcast.'

Been and not Is
!!!

Anniebach Fri 18-Aug-17 20:34:16

Never liked him and do think he was unwise to host strictly

R.I.P.

aggie Fri 18-Aug-17 20:40:29

DD3 saw him live at a Strictly show and said he was terrific , up to that she was a bit anti , but seems he was very good and warm to his audience . I liked him , may he rest in peace

LadyGracie Fri 18-Aug-17 21:34:01

May he rest in peace. Not one of my favourite people. I must say he annoyed me, I wasn't fond of his 'humour'

Morgana Fri 18-Aug-17 21:41:14

Didn't like the way he leered over some of the women. He will not be missed in this house

Charleygirl Fri 18-Aug-17 21:41:46

I could not stand the sight of him and when he was on Strictly I turned down the sound so that I did not have to listen to his stupid jokes. If he was on another programme I would switch off the TV.

Sympathy for his family, RIP.

NanKate Fri 18-Aug-17 22:08:44

I turn down the sound when any of the presenters are on Strictly as IMO they talk a lot of inane tosh.

BF not my cup of tea either. However his wife seemed truly in love with him, so I am sorry for her loss and his family.

Nelliemoser Fri 18-Aug-17 22:29:27

Whitewave I wasn't "speaking ill of him" as such. I was just saying I could not stand him.
As far as I know he wasn't a wife beater or child molester or a particularly nasty man.
Just not my taste as an entertainer.
