I've just caught up with this. Amazing subject matter and acting. Had me in tears....

I loved Dirk Bogarde long before I knew he was gay I think I got it all brought home to me with Quentin Crisp s book

Yes annie, all that brilliant 'acting' fell into place when finally all could be revealed without fear or favour. It almost seems incomprehensible now that people had to live in the shadows and be constantly on the alert not that long ago!

It was so well acted and directed niggly, when Bogarde did come out years later it explained how he could portray the barrister with such sensitivity

Are they showing 'Victim' this week? It would fit into the genre they are showing.

I watched Man in the Orange Shirt and enjoyed it, and like you BlueBelle I thought the acting and storyline were both very good. I've read a lot of Patrick Gale's books and he writes well. I thought he came across well when he was interviewed a few days ago.

Did you see the 60s film - Victim - with Dirk Bogarde as a gay man and a Barrister? It was the first film about that sort of thing I saw and it had rent boys etc as well as the hatred they endured.

What a different world it was then. Hard to believe that for many it is within (adult) living memory.
I agree about the quality of the production and the writing.
