Weeping and wailing - and wiping.

This is intended to be light hearted but I have just watched yet another programme episode where someone has got very upset, cried, and spent the next ten minutes gulping, sobbing, trying to talk and all the while wiping their nose and eyes all over their hands and face. Does nobody EVER have a tissue? It doesn't seem to matter if they are sobbing alone or in company, they sit with tears (and worse) rolling down their faces and then they start to wipe the contents of their nose and all the tears everywhere. DH has got fed up with me shouting 'Oh for goodness sake - somebody give her a tissue!' Does this annoy anyone else? Is there any other often repeated annoyance on TV that anyone else gets cross about that I could try getting niggly about too, given the opportunity?

I saw them (briefly) and was horrified!

The kitchen cupboards they said they loved were like mine and I am so fed up with them and want a new kitchen - they can have them if they like grin

I will give them away .....

There was a gay couple (men) on ETTC just the other day, and one of them cried with joy when he saw the kitchen ( cue much eye rolling from DH) grin however it's just as annoying when women do that ( an Aga! Sob!? )

NudeJude yes, I too thought gays were a minority. It seems not.....

Not taking over the world, just being part of the world

What winds me up about Escape to the Country is when they show the house hunters property that is ONLY £50k above their budget, where do they expect them to suddenly find that sort of money? Ridiculous!

Also, and I might get shot for saying this, but is anyone else sick to the back teeth of seeing gay couples, usually men, kissing in just about every soap on TV. I don't have a problem with people's sexuality, but I certainly don't want it thrust under my nose every night when I turn on the telly. From the amount of stuff about gays on TV these days, we're beginning to think that they're taking over the world!

Jalima1108 Thu 27-Jul-17 13:56:58

cwasin probably not, so there would have been a bit of sleeve wiping for all to see on the telly.

cwasin Thu 27-Jul-17 12:17:47

But would you have a hankie or a tissue Jalima?

henetha Thu 27-Jul-17 11:57:25

You are absolutely right, Sarahelenwhitney. It's absolutely everyone's choice as to how many rooms they want. Actually, I've got too many rooms here really, so I can't talk! Tootle pip.

Jalima1108 Thu 27-Jul-17 09:45:03

I would be carted off, weeping, wailing and still protesting grin

Oh dear! GN opened on the last couple of posts for some reason this morning and I re-read the meridian question.
For some reason, because France was mentioned, I took it to mean the Paris meridian, not the internationally recognised Greenwich meridian.

I would be no good whatsoever on one of these quiz programmes as I would be arguing the toss if there was any ambiguity whatsoever in the questions blush

I didn't put Greenwich as to me Greenwich is the only one. I spent most of my school holidays playing there. I have a very soft spot for the park.

Jalima1108 Tue 25-Jul-17 23:35:23

yes, but the Greenwich meridian is the only one that matters

(ducks for cover)

A contestant on The Chase this evening was very proud that she had been in the travel industry for eons.
One of her questions: the meridian line goes through France and then what country: her answer: Belgium!!!
Sorry to be so critical but geography is my favourite subject.

rosesarered Tue 25-Jul-17 20:54:56

Leople? people!

rosesarered Tue 25-Jul-17 20:54:23

Heehee, ETTC is only any good if the lovely Alistair Appleton is presenting it.
I like his chilled attitude, sometimes he can hardly be bothered speaking so just smiles instead.
So many leople want to'chat to guests whilst they are doing the cooking'.......really? My worst nightmare.

merlotgran Tue 25-Jul-17 20:51:30

Oh Yes. Yelling at contestants is great fun. Calling them dim-wits because they think Queen Victoria signed the Magna Carta. grin

petra Tue 25-Jul-17 20:49:29

jalima
I have to say that I do cheer on young people who answer political, history, world events questions when I wouldn't expect them to know the answer.

Jalima1108 Tue 25-Jul-17 20:40:40

or send telepathic messages to contestants who don't know the answers

What a great thread, various different themes but all hugely relateable(?) to me. Its nice to know that many people think along similar lines - and speak to their TVs.

Deedaa Tue 25-Jul-17 18:27:16

The other great joy on Escape to the Country is the couple who want a character cottage and then complain about the small windows! They obviously have no grasp of social history at all. And then there are the people who want to be self sufficient! I've done self sufficiency with chickens, goats, pigs and even a couple of calves, and it's bloody hard work. It's also 24/7 and doesn't leave much time for entertaining in that ludicrously large kitchen grin

Blinko Tue 25-Jul-17 18:14:09

Jalima, glad I'm not alone then.. smile

inishowen Tue 25-Jul-17 18:06:32

My pet hate is when chefs/cooks have a tea towel over their shoulder or tucked into their belt. I dread to think what germs it contains and what they use it for!

petra Tue 25-Jul-17 16:47:05

I know I shouldn't but I get incensed at people who go on quizz programmes and don't know very simple stuff.
I have to say that I'm in 2 quizz teams and quizz at least once a week. I watch all quizz programmes to keep the mind sharp and learn more facts, I also have to read a lot of 'stuff'
I've just literally sworn at the tv again ( Tipping point) A woman of about 60 didn't know who Sir Stuart Rose is. Grrrrrrr.

Bernice123 Tue 25-Jul-17 16:36:39

Exactly my thoughts on Escape to the Country which is also my guilty secret to watch when I'm not working. The older house hunters always end up being interested in a property which is far bigger than where they currently are and why they need acres and acres of land, and in the middle of nowhere is beyond me. Agree absolutely with previous comments on lack of shops, gp and transport for when they can no longer drive. And today's episode in Cambridgeshire with the spiral staircase? As for tissues, I can never be without them. Much more hygienic than the linen handkerchiefs used by DH which need spraying before going in a hot wash-yuk!

Disgruntled Tue 25-Jul-17 16:17:46

I too love this thread! I use an old fashioned hankie - well, more than one - aren't they more hygienic than tissues everywhere? Certainly cheaper.
And those people who stir something in a saucepan and taste it - or even offer it to someone else to taste - and then put the spoon back in!!!! AAAaarrrggghh.
What about the Grand Designs where you see young couples (where did they get all that money?) deciding on taps that cost £1,000 each! (Mind you, I love the £100,000 houses.)
This thread could run and run...................
