Outlander

I loved the books Jalima and prefer them to the TV series although I am enjoying that as well, in general I find I prefer the book to the film or TV version of anything, Each to their own.

I read the first book and it was OK but found the subsequent ones really tedious, annoying and boring. Especially one which was set in America. Just awful. I gave up the struggle of reading them.

Is the tv series any better than the books though?

Am really liking this drama. History, Scottish glens and men in kilts.

I got the box set a few months ago, having ran out of episodes of Game of Thrones and Vikings, but thus far have only watched the first episode and it didn't grip me. Have to agree with Lona; felt very uncomfortable about that scene [and yet Game of Thrones doesn't bother me at all] and resolved to not watch it with family . Didn't feel it was necessary.

David Cameron stopped this being shown before the independence referendum because he thought it would influence the outcome ....I still haven't seen it but my daughter tells me its brilliant

Quite enjoyed the first episode, but was intrigued that she seemed to lose her belt in the transition between 20th century and 18th!

I watched it too and really enjoyed it. I've never heard of the author though.
Must admit that I thought the oral sex was a bit unnecessary, and I'm not a prude.

I've read most of the books and am now rereading them and they are even better a second time around.

The TV series both 1 and 2 must not be missed IMO

Thanks travelsafar I didn't know this was on and have just watched it. Hopefully my sky box will be fixed next week and I can skip the ads. Wonder where it was filmed, certainly not Inverness. Shall go and google it.

I had heard people raving about this series (I believe it was on elsewhere before more4) and didn't think it was my thing. However, I watched the first episode on Thursday evening am already hooked!

They are a brilliant series of books travelsafar, Diana Gabaldon is one of my all time favourite authors.
There is so much detail in her books they are enthralling. Although I enjoyed the TV series I much prefer the books. There is a new one coming out next year I believe. Also I like her Lord John series as a spin off from the main books.
