Ever more ridiculous adverts.

So, we have an ad for someone deciding to jilt their potential bridegroom at the last minute, she's got the wedding frock (love the word frockgrin) everything seems to be set up, but at the last minute she decides against it.

The ad is for chewing gum...confused

If anyone can explain the concept behind that, I would love to be enlightened, or though I suppose the fact that I'm asking about it says something!

Still won't be buying any chewing gum though, revolting stuff!

Surely the adverts are there to provide time for us to let the dog out (or in) and put the kettle on or change into pyjamas?

I don't believe they sell us much, I can rarely guess what the product is and if something caught my fancy, I would be trying to get a second hand one.

HootyMcOwlface Thu 25-May-17 11:12:57

Oh I loath that ad too. The first time I saw it I couldn't believe my eyes that they had a woman going to her wedding chewing gum, of course I realised why at the end as it was for gum. But really! Chewing gum going to your wedding, revolting. I just hate seeing people chewing gum (usually with their mouths open!) I don't know why it irritates me so much. People chewing gum always remind me of cows chewing the cud! Haha! No offense to cows, I like cows.

I don't get the M&S one either. I never remember who it is for till the end - I always think next time I see it I must try and see what clothes the people are wearing (that must be the point of it?) but I always forget!

I quite like that car rental one (Sixt?) But that is probably my peculiar sense of humour! X

Am happily married pensioner. Can anyone explain why the chap in th Cadbury Dairy milk advert who sings yes sir I can boogie does it for me(you know what I mean!)

Hm999 Thu 25-May-17 10:58:07

On a more positive note, the Skeletor ad makes me smile every time

Hm999 Thu 25-May-17 10:57:13

Cold. Me too. I shudder at those ads. The mother one is just as bad. Btw why does he give the car a name if he's only renting it for a day?

Grampie Thu 25-May-17 10:47:44

After this ad:

youtu.be/XLpDiIVX0Wo

The company is trying to sell more gum to women.

Our cat loves the one with hens...Waitrose eggs, I think. I have to replay it for him.
He doesn't do the shopping, though.

Bellanonna Thu 25-May-17 10:47:21

Oh that James Corden one, how I loathe it. That and Audrey Hepburn. Why can't she eat her chocolate on the coach? It's been on too long and I'm sick of it.
I usually hit the mute button as soon as the ads come on anyway.

TillyWhiz Thu 25-May-17 10:41:18

I love the current Lloyds Bank horse cantering through the centuries 'always will be here for you' - local branch now closed after all those centuries!! Absolutely hate the James Corden parking the car thing whatever it's for - channel turner.

KatyK Thu 25-May-17 10:24:25

Personally, I love having a good moan about the adverts smile That man and his G Tech vacuum cleaner or whatever it is called is a particular bugbear of mine. Yes it is trivial and probably a waste of time but harmless enough.

travelsafar Thu 25-May-17 08:11:23

Cant stand the ones for Nationwide at the moment, people popping on to spout a few words, are they supposed to be hip and trendy with some deep meaning but to me they are just a load of claptrap!!!!!

Maggiemaybe Thu 25-May-17 08:02:45

Same here, PRINTMISS. The only time I deliberately watch the ads is at C*******s, for the big store weepies. Sorry, I know it's way too early for some of you!

PRINTMISS Thu 25-May-17 07:57:35

I don't even understand some of them.

annsixty Thu 25-May-17 07:28:47

merlotgran I have apologized and I am not trying to make my situation worse than others.
Of course we all have crap to deal with. I am usually as lighthearted as the next person, just not at that moment and my frustration spilled over.

ninathenana Thu 25-May-17 07:26:45

Same here grannylyn
If I'm watching commercial TV in real time I usually channel hop.

grannylyn65 Thu 25-May-17 07:14:36

I hate the Audrey Hepburn look alike, I have no idea why !!!

merlotgran Wed 24-May-17 22:05:14

I don't take much notice of the products being advertised so they're wasted on me.

I must confess I chew gum when driving long distances. Not sure why though.

Cherrytree59 Wed 24-May-17 22:04:27

Given up watching adverts.
Hate chewing gum.
I have never actually witnessed anybody spitting or dropping gum,
And yet the pavements in some areas are covered in the stuffconfused.

Don't get me started on seats or under tables
Yuck!!

Christinefrance Wed 24-May-17 21:59:37

Yes Cold that car hire one is really annoying.
Must admit though I do enjoy some of the animal ads.

merlotgran Wed 24-May-17 21:52:13

Sometimes you risk life and limb posting anything light hearted on Gransnet these days.

Sorry, annsixty but a lot of us have stuff to deal with and it won't be worth looking in if we're not allowed to have a laugh without having our knuckles rapped.

Deedaa Wed 24-May-17 21:32:15

Can anyone make sense of the current M&S one? Something about strong women I think. No wonder they're losing so much money

Ana Wed 24-May-17 21:02:06

I don't even know what advert it is that you're going on about...sigh...

phoenix Wed 24-May-17 20:59:42

annsixty sorry if I have annoyed you, yes we have both had a lot to deal with, and I appreciate that comments about tv ads are frivolous.

You ask why I watch adverts, and say that the one I refer to has been around for ages. Actually, I very rarely see TV adverts, but had the misfortune to see that one earlier.

I actually find some aspects of advertising quite interesting, looking at the ones in the back of the Radio Times, then the magazine included in Saturday's edition of the D.T, the products available, the "match" to the supposed demographic of the reader etc.

Anyway, yet again I go off topic.

Please let it be that no matter what is going on, and let's face it there is enough international, national, and personal trouble for us all, but please, where you can, and where appropriate, try to find a bit of the light side.

Cold Wed 24-May-17 20:47:38

I absolutely HATE the advert for Sixt car hire that is showing at the moment:
A woman phones her dad to let him know he is a grandad to triplets
The dad says "that's nothing - I've just rented a BMW for £49"

Just so horrid and materialistic - puts me off ever using the company

annsixty Wed 24-May-17 20:45:32

I apologise for really harsh comments. had a really, really bad day and feeling like crap. No excuses just bad timing.
