Did anyone watch the new series called Broken last night? I was watching the Trial and am going to watch Broken on playback just wondered if it was any good.

Excellent I missed the early episodes as they were on choir night and watched them on Iplayer. I am still on catch up so please dont give anything away.

BlueBelle Thu 22-Jun-17 19:07:18

Nelliemoster don't read this thread till you ve caught up as people may want to talk about things they saw

Iam64 Thu 22-Jun-17 19:24:31

I missed episodes one and two because we were away and arrived back too late to catch up with episode one. We did see 2.
I found it gripping, great cast, dialogue, dark but moving story lines.
This weeks episode was so distressing. I went to bed thinking about it, woke up feeling sad and took a while to realise I still felt haunted by the programme. Belen the presence of Adrian Dunbar didn't leave me feeling anything other than sad.
Jimmy McGovern is a brilliant writer, this is a brilliant series but so dark.

I've just finished watching the latest episode. I'm beginning to think that this is one of the most moving, gut wrenching, heartbreaking, powerful dramas on TV since Boys from the Blackstuff. The writing and acting are superb and I find myself so engrossed and moved by the characters and their stories that I feel genuinely moved.Sean Bean should get every award going as should JM.

Wow. I've just watched the latest episode. It had me in tears. So moving, amazing acting, it has really touched me. One of the best dramas I've ever seen.

Eloethan Tue 27-Jun-17 22:54:18

This has been so brilliant. I wasn't previously a fan of Sean Bean - I think I'd only seen him fleetingly in the sort of macho-type roles that really turn me off. But he is magnificent in this drama. It is a really moving and intelligent drama that poses some difficult questions.

BlueBelle Tue 27-Jun-17 22:57:54

Wow I m truly loving this drama, Sean Bean is playing a great role, really believable So true to life in all the various problems Definitely the best one for a long time

Rigby46 Tue 27-Jun-17 23:10:59

I love the way it portrays the lives of those in a poorer, struggling community in all its diversity, the whole range of emotions, love, despair, warmth, goodness, unacceptable behaviour - the real richness of the human condition without facile stereotyping or easy solutions. People are complex, flawed, human . Just stunning

I love this drama, but it awakened too many sad memories of my difficult childhood. I would never have thought that Sean Bean would play the part so well. He is excellent in the role.

NfkDumpling Wed 28-Jun-17 07:51:33

I was a fan of Sean Bean when he played easy to watch swash buckling parts but then he developed to play parts which mess with my head and give me bad dreams. I've got enough angst in my life and I'm looking for escapism so if he's playing a lead in something, I avoid it! Miss watching him though!

I'm going to watch last night's episode this rainy afternoon. I went to bed and woke up feeling so low after watching last weeks at 9pm. I fear this is another sign im Turnball no into my mother ?

ninathenana Wed 28-Jun-17 09:45:51

Excellent !
If you've not yet watched last nights episode I defy you not to be moved.

POGS Wed 28-Jun-17 12:07:23

Another excellent series and Sean Bean is playing the role superbly.

I am eagerly awaiting the last in the series and I hope it does have a conclusion as to Father Michaels personal issues.

So many good programmes around it is hard to keep up with them all.

Iam64 Thu 29-Jun-17 13:45:05

I watched it last night and agree, it was a great episode. The cast is flawless. I've never watched Sean Bean in his swashbuckling roles. What an actor. Jimmy McGovern is so good at writing about life and all it's tragedies with some humour.

Looks like you love talking about Broken ! Why not send the BBC One programme Points of View your thoughts on it, and have a chance to appear on the telly!

I'm really enjoying this. Sean Bean is great! Wish we'd had a priest like him when I was growing up.I love anything by Jimmy McGovern. He was on tv this morning and seems like a really nice guy.

Just binge watched all five episodes available. So powerful, the acting was superb it was hard to watch but really thought provoking.

sweetpea Sun 02-Jul-17 22:00:32

This is a brilliant series, I hope we have another one. All the characters have been well cast and the story lines first rate. I first saw Sean Bean in Fair Maid of the West at The Mermaid in Puddledock, must be some 26 years ago and been a fan ever since. The opening song by Nina Simone (I think it's going to rain today) and the closing song by the wonderful Ray Davies (Broken) are both very emotive. Well done Jimmy McGovern, BBC and all the actors.

devongirl Tue 04-Jul-17 16:23:45

I second all those plaudits - brilliant plot writing and superb acting by Sean Bean, I do hope he gets an award for this, heart-breaking.

BlueBelle Tue 04-Jul-17 16:38:37

callgirl1 Tue 04-Jul-17 22:03:06

Well, it was a good finish, but not completely finalised, so hopefully there`ll be another series. That was one of the best dramas on TV in a long while.

ninathenana Tue 04-Jul-17 22:09:36

What we said too callgirl it was definitly open ended.

Coolgran65 Tue 04-Jul-17 22:13:20

Wonderful series. Provoked every emotion I have, and then some.

seacliff Tue 04-Jul-17 22:23:46

Loved it, unusual and fantastic series, will miss it. Hope they do another. Awards would be well deserved for Sean Bean and Jimmy McGovern.

BlueBelle Wed 05-Jul-17 07:46:43
