Anyone else watching Versailles? I started off not liking it much but as the series progressed started enjoying it quite a lot.The costumes alone are fantastic, but the characters have gained depth. We visited Versailles some years ago, it really is an amazing place.

I see from following 'Phillipe' on Twitter that the third series is being made and the first episode is 'in the can'. I wish they would show it from the beginning as I didn't catch on until about the third episode when I worked out who everyone was.

The costumes are just wonderful, in fact I look at what the men are wearing more than the women.

I hadn't thought about Phillipe being attractive, but Fabien is.....very!

Haven't watched but will definitely do so now - I want to see this Phillipe of whom you speak!

Points of View used to have its own TV slot and very entertaining it was too.

I too love Versailles! I love it so much that I even sent the BBC my thoughts on it! Little did I know that there is a programme just for one's opinions on BBC programmes called Points of View. If any of you should like to let them know anything, here is the link:

he is quite simply gorgeous but in a different way to Phillipe- darkly brooding and in need of a good woman like us I would say- whereas Phillipe can take us or leave us.

Whats this Fabian thing? What have I missed???
Tell me quick !!!!

Philippe is mesmerizing to me also. So handsome .

Mind you I also find head of police/security Fabien Marchal (Tygh Runyan) has his moments confused.

I have enjoyed both series and will definitely watch series 3 when it comes out. The costumes and obviously the scenery are beautiful.

Apparently Welsh mother Greek Father- very exotic anyway I think.

I love the bods on Inside Versailles, but the fixed grin is a bit daunting, nerves maybe.

rosesarered Mon 26-Jun-17 22:13:40

Really?! I assumed he was Russian or Czech. grin

Lona Mon 26-Jun-17 22:12:35

Hands off you lot!! He's MINE!
I think it's surprisingly good and quite factual according to the historians at the end. I do wish she wouldn't give that maniacal grin to camera though grin

Me too Treetime , one can dream ?

Teetime Mon 26-Jun-17 09:26:17

Me too I love Phillipe and thought he was terribly exotic with a name like Alexander Vlahos but no he is Welsh and I'm following (stalking) him on Twitter. grin

One of my favourites too grannylyn65- I record and then binge on two or three episodes. Looking forward to the next series.

rosesarered Sun 25-Jun-17 23:15:07

And a very good actor too!

Tegan2 Sun 25-Jun-17 23:02:08

I don't make a point of watching it and, when I do it's usually out of sequence or I've clicked on to catchup for something to watch late at night. I must admit the main reason for watching it is because I can't take my eyes off Philippe! Gorgeous or what!!

rosesarered Sun 25-Jun-17 21:11:49

Am still catching up with recorded episodes, but find it gripping and the acting is just so good.

grannylyn65 Sat 06-May-17 17:04:16

Oooh it's one of my favourites !!!

That's interesting ww ......poor old Treasurer!

Hard work being a favourite royal mistress, I think that they probably earned ( in more ways than one) every bit of jewellery they were given. In the reign of the sun king, protocol went crazy and that would have been hard to live with too.

Lona Sat 06-May-17 15:34:09

I'm quite enjoying it despite all the gratuitous nudity! ?
I enjoy the five minute historical update at the end despite the female professor's maniacal grin grin

It was in the main not filmed in Versailles - Marie Antoinette changed much of the inside of the original palace so they filmed it at Vaux -Le- Vitcomte which is SE in the outskirts of Paris. It was built by Louis' Treasurer prior to Versailles. He held a big party to celebrate the completion of the building and Louis was invited - he was astounded at the luxury and did not believe the Treasurer could have paid for it with his own money so threw him into prison for cooking the books and stealing money! Then he employed the architect etc to build Versailles. ,
It is a place worth visiting and the gardens are lovely - at Maincy. It is the same side of Paris as Disney and also the same area as the little village where Louis Braille was born and lived for some of his life.

It's really worth watching Jane

I was wondering if I should give it a try. I was a bit put off it by thinking I've missed too much though.
A rainy afternoon soon I reckon...
