I agree a wonderful film and so poignant but with some lovely light moments.

I agree, Jane. I nearly didn't go to see it because I'm really not keen on Hugh Grant, but I have to say his portrayal of a second-rate English actor in the US was spot-on! More than that, though, the character's unfailing devotion to his wife was very subtly expressed, which surprised me. Meryl Streep can do no wrong in my eyes, so it was no surprise at how marvellous she was as Florence - a character that trod the thin line between ridiculous and charming very nimbly. As you say, a very good film.

(Entirely different but equally impressive was "Lion" - did you see that?)

I agree. It's a lovely film. And so is Lion.

I have it on dvd. It's a super film. Quite poignant at times.

My father had a record of Florence Foster Jenkins. We played it all the time when I was a child.

Was she really such a bad singer? Did you play it for a laugh or because you enjoyed listening to her?

I agree, a good film which gave a sensitive portrayal of the relationship, which I saw at our local community centre film night. I have said on anther thread that I also found Hidden Figures, about the black women who solved the mathmatical problems for the first manned space craft at Nassa, one of the best films I have seen.

Imagine living under such a threat all those years. All the money in the world couldn't fix it. Poor soul. So sad.
