I watched to re run of the last two episodes of Line of Duty on playback just to refresh myself as the new series starts this Sunday. Oh my God!!! it was riverting I had forgotten how much, I found myself shouting for Kate to 'be careful' when she was chasing Cotton in the final scenes, cant wait for the new series now. Anyone else watched the re runs??
I couldn't work out what advantage Maneet had from handing over the info to Hilton.
I admit to feeling a bit confused about some of the details. Did anyone realise that Maneet had passed on information to Hilton? Was the information she accessed, the only information and was Jamie telling the truth when he said he hadn't accessed it? (It could be that I lost concentration again).
It was good, though, wasn't it. I had doubts at the beginning but it was very gripping.
I suspect AC H had 'something' on Maneet which he'd have used to discredit her if she hadn't followed his bidding.
I had believed Jamie when he said he'd hadn't accessed the information. I now believe he was a young Dot Cotton, that is someone picked out by organised crime and groomed to join the police force in order to increase the number of corrupt officers they could use to their advantage. Maybe AC H didn't know this when he used Maneet to gain information, or maybe he did and Maneet provided different info.
All lose ends to be picked up in the next series.
Great tv. Great cast and enough characters whose name begins with H to confuse all of us.
Think you're right. Several interesting loose ends guarantee an eagerly-awaited next series. And all those H's to suspect!
I can't think of another plot that used that device.
He called him that after he saw the last confession of the Caddy - who said H when he was trying to give the name in his confession. Hilton was of course trying to deflect the heat away from himself. As was pointed out there were a number of people with surnames starting with H.
It was brilliant, I still don't understand Maneet's involvement either. I don't want Hastings to be corrupt, I do like a hero.
Jamie didn't access the information - Maneet tricked him into giving her his log in name and password by saying that security were doing an update to the systems. She then accessed his computer and downloaded the file of Dot's confession and passed the memory stick on to Hilton in the alley. The next day she went on early maternity leave. When Hilton lt Hastings know he had seen it he looked at printouts of the files the AC12 team had accessed and of course it showed up on Jamie's computer.
Thank you Pittcity I hadn't seen the previous series, but still found it riveting! So many characters and names over the series it was at times quite difficult to keep up!
Oh, that was good! Even though I have to admit that I was so shattered after a Tour de Yorkshire day with DGS2 in tow, I may have dozed off for a few minutes of the action
. I'll be watching it again when he's gone home just in case! I take it that Maneet wasn't brought to book, so lives to conspire another day, in series 5?
Thank you ww. Maneet has been bothering me. I'd forgotten about the 'security check'.
I thoroughly enjoy it. I just wished that the 'results' of the judgements were printed bigger, and allowed to stay on the screen for a little longer. The o.h. can't read writing that small, and I had difficulty reading them out to him in time, although I read them to myself quickly. Small point didn't detract form our enjoyment of a super serial, it was lovely that time was not filled in with a 'tour' of the countryside, as so often happens in crime/thrillers these days.
Regarding Maneet and Jamie at the end , when Hastings says something like 'take my picture off the board' they acknowledged officers were being blackmailed to do
'H' bidding.
The cliff hanger , if I am not thinking incorrectly , is there still another 'H' and could even Hilton have been doing another 'H' bidding. At the scene of Hilton's suicide AC 12_Fleming made reference to an old suicide happening at the same spot.
It's the eye contact at the very end between Fleming and Hastings that had me wanting to know more. Does she have doubts about her boss?
A good series is when people have different takes on the who, when , how, possibilities and boy this series kept true to form .
Good point about the closing "results" printmiss. They are not large enough, and don't stay on the screen long enough.
I often have to pause and rewind when I miss a bit. Another bit of modern technology that I love!
It was great. Not sure about Jamie- was he bent or just used by Hilton because he was wrongly accused by Hastings? Hilton of course had something on Maneet so wonder if she will turn up in the next series. Great series, can't wait for the next.
Sublime! Drama at it's very best. Do hope Jed Mecurio has the next one written and ready to go, so many loose ends.
Yes great series. Love the characters even if some things do not feel very realistic. Roz Huntley returns to work just after amputation? Steve Arnott surviving that fall and then apparently quickly back to work? In reality surely both would be shunted to less demanding roles after a period of rehabiltation.
And what was the motive for the women's murders? Was it sex? Or something darker and more complex?
So many questions. Pause and rewind for brief discussion with DH at every point!
I'm coming to the conclusion that Hastings himself may be bent. I hope I'm wrong, obviously. I agree that Kate looked askance at Ted, and that she's less enamoured of him than Steve.
I was a bit cross in the end that Hilton was a baddie - it was obvious, then not so obvious, then...obvious! A kind of double bluff. Clever!
I still think Nick is involved, somewhere. I love the way Roz played Jimmy, turning things upside down. She would have implicated Nick had she not known that she was stuffed, I'm sure. She has an odd sense of morality. Firstly, she's unable to see that framing Farmer is not ok; then she states to Hilton "I'm not bent, Sir" when she is, and then she goes on to say, having killed Tim, having implicated her husband, and Hana, having concealed evidence that she is "not a bad person". Beggars belief, but, kind of believable, in a way. Im not keen on TN, but I thought she played this part stonkingly well. Could she really be that cold? That calculating? Not to mention tough as an old boot? Yes!
I don't think the next series is written yet, but I believe Mercurio is going to gauge the reaction to this series to help form the next one.
For what it's worth, I think Hilton was murdered, and I think it's interesting that he was found in the exact same place as Oliver, the SW who was into Fairbank. His death was explained as suicide, and the investigation was stopped by none other than Steve's ex Sam.
.
They do say that the next series will tie up all the loose ends. But what a fabulous series!
There was some bloodstained clothing found that Huntley had hidden - but, as the average male has between 9 and 11 pints of blood and Ifield 'bled out' I cannot see that 10 or so pints of blood could have been completely cleaned up in one night by one woman. The clothing, her shoes etc would have been completely saturated, where were the cloths/towels she used?
What an excellent programme that was. Like others I am looking forward to the next instalment, I hope they clear up the Manet question then. Jalima, Huntley did say Ifield had prepped the area, putting plastic down etc, maybe he also raised the edges of that to catch the blood. Probably be like trying to move a water bed by then. Am now going to watch the first two series which I missed when it was first shown.
I am full of admiration for the "cleaning up" of blood in Tim Iffield's kitchen.
It is nearly 18 months since I caught Grace's poor tail in the back door and she sprayed the kitchen/dining area/hall with blood as she continued to wag it ? with blood splatters everywhere.
(I am still finding traces
)
Slattern that I am.
At the end there was a camera shot of Hastings. He had a strange look on his face.
It made me feel that he is not all that he appears to be.
Great last episode, great drama.Looking forward to the next series already.
I am thinking of employing Roz as a cleaner when she comes out of prison.
Just don't let her in the shed near the power tools .....
