Sorry about the typo!

DH no longer enjoys going to the cinema so we'll have to wait until it comes out on Prime. Looking forward to it though.

Did it take you long to get your head around Hugh Bonneville as Louis Mountbatten? I've seen a few trailers and he looks all wrong to me.

Yes he looks a bit wrong but I put it aside as it was so good.

Saw a trailer quite recently, looked good but as we know from "La La Land" the best bits can be encapsulated into 2 minutes. I haven't read a review yet, but I'll wait and see what the Sunday Times makes of it tomorrow. I must say I have to agree, Hugh Bonneville has such a fat round face he looks all wrong for fairly long faced Mountbatten, maybe Hugh Grant would have been a better physical match. Both the Hughs only play posh fellas anyway. I'm sure Gillian Anderson will be good though, she always is.

Gillian Anderson was excellent- Edwina Mountbatten was not an easy study and she got her just right. The whole film is fantastic, no boring or slow bits. I tend not to go by professional reviewers it was a story I wanted to know more about and so well done like the film Ghandi in scale.

I'm pleased to read this. I will be going to see it on Monday.
I have to drive H and S to the cinema 30 mins away and need something to watch whilst they see 'Logan'

I saw thw film as part of 2 couples snd we agreed that it is a good film, worth seeing. We too had reservations about Hugh Bonneville, not his acting but his look, but we had none about Gillian Anderson, Michael Gambon and the rest of the cast.

Personally, I could have done with less of the love story but I do understand that it ran parallel with the politics and helps paint the picture. Hopefully, it will also bring more people in to see an important and tragic part of history. We 4 cinema-goers contributed half the audience (and possibly brought the average age down) although it was a 5.30 pm showing.

I have no reason to doubt the accuracy of the history but I shall be interested to check it out. I think the film quotes Churchill's 'History is written by the victors'. I am not sure who the victors are in this film but the Director gives an even-handed view of the main protagonists and makes her own engaging contribution to the history.

Very moving and in my case enlightening, of course I knew the basic story but I wasn't aware of the true horrors. It's not an era they teach you in school.
OMG that palace, and the amount of servants.

Saw it today and we were blown away with it. Best to see it on big screen if possible. The arrival at the house at beginning was just amazing. Gillian Anderson was brilliant. Hugh B was an interesting choice but because he always seems to play the Goodie I think it worked because it makes u look at Mount batten in a new light. I cried at end even though I knew of course about the carnage
Well worth seeing and we booked seats for the streaming of madame butterfly while we were there!

It seems that there are at least two views about the accuracy of the politics and the role of Mountbatten. It's not unusual where history and historians are concerned, as with journalists and current affairs. The history would be an interesting study but, for now, I would say it's a good film but I would reserve judgement about its complete accuracy.

I enjoyed the film, agree that Gillian Anderson was brilliant. Bonneville's face not quite right for Mountbatten but Bonneville is always so likeable when playing upper class chaps.
I feel like re-reading the Jewel in the crown trilogy and also historians views on this period in our history.

Have tickets to see it this evening and looking forward to it very much.
