Anyone watching? I think 'hayley' played a good part

Badenkate Tue 28-Feb-17 12:28:59

I know people on here have complained about it being slow - which I totally disagree with, by the way - but from what I've read, the 'slowness' of the first part was completely intentional because they wanted to represent fairly and clearly what happens to a rape victim when they report the rape to the police. Most stories use the rape as the 'Mcguffin', as Hitchcock used to call it, to bring people into the story, but this actually treated rape as the terrible crime that it is. I thought Trish's question 'Do you believe me?' was heartrending - an amazing performance altogether.

The point about the fisherman's twine and the condoms was that this did not make it appear as though it was a random act - it was more indicative of someone who had gone out intending to find a victim.

I thought it was a great start - and something to fill the gap of Taboo. And I could happily watch and listen to David Tennant all night wink

Me too Luckygirl. I love the commentary he did for the Spy in The Wild prog. DH is Scots but he doesn't sound like David!

Luckygirl Tue 28-Feb-17 12:00:05

Well - I could sit and watch and listen to David Tennant all day - yummy! smile

Greyduster Tue 28-Feb-17 11:51:37

I am a keen fisherman, grumppa and have been known to have twine about my person. I have often thought about tying someone up, but unfortunately, he has never been into that sort of thing! ?

I'm amazed Ellie chose to stay in Broadchurch with her son after what happened in the first series - imagine what the boy's had to face at school. No wonder he's going off the rails...

TerriBull Tue 28-Feb-17 10:59:27

I'm wondering if the scene where Olivia Coleman's character is called into her son's school to discuss the porn incident is not only to make the point of the detrimental affect it has on young minds but possibly to provide a link to the fact that some rapists have an addictive porn habit.

Haven't watched it yet,so I had better stay off here! We usually record about three of a series and then watch them either all together (!) or one every day.

Pittcity Tue 28-Feb-17 10:25:09

The blue rope at the end was in a bag from Sir Len's shop!

Pittcity Tue 28-Feb-17 10:23:43

Ana there was a bit of a red condom wrapper at the scene, the glovebox ones were also in a red packet.
It was mentioned that a condom had been used as indicated when "Hayley* was examined.

grumppa Tue 28-Feb-17 10:19:11

I was unconvinced by some of the evidence apparently pointing to a serial sex predator - fisherman's twine and a condom. I can readily imagine that a keen fisherman might have some twine about his person without wishing to tie someone up; and a man hoping to get lucky at a party might carry a packet of condoms just in case: that wouldn't make him a rapist, just careful. I'm not saying the rapist isn't a serial sex predator, just that the detectives shouldn't close their minds.

Ana Tue 28-Feb-17 10:05:37

Yes, I missed some of the dialogue too, and I don't usually have a problem.

Jalima Tue 28-Feb-17 10:02:40

I missed the condom packet in the glove box, serves me right for knitting and watching - multi-tasking is no good when you're trying to watch something like Broadchurch.

I wish David wouldn't gabble, I can't understand all he says.
Apart from that, I enjoyed it and I enjoy these threads too - Gransnetters are such eagle-eyed detectives grin

Ana Tue 28-Feb-17 09:58:30

What did they find at the presumed scene of the crime that indicated condom use?

I enjoyed it although found it a bit slow, I expect it will speed up though - 7 more episodes to go!

shysal Tue 28-Feb-17 09:38:39

I found myself being rather critical during last night's episode. First of all they didn't use their car seat belts some of the time, and then how did 'Hayley' get into her house with the detectives as she had no belongings or key on her? It was all rather slow moving for me, hope it improves and that the ending is clear.

TerriBull Tue 28-Feb-17 09:37:18

Promising start. I think Trisher should have been examined by a doctor after being clobbered on the head she may well have had concussion.

cornergran Tue 28-Feb-17 09:33:39

Enjoyed this, even though I struggled to recall the detail from the last series, I finally decided it didn't matter and of course it didn't! Lots of questions, Mr C seems to have all the answers, time will tell if he's right hmm.

Charleygirl Tue 28-Feb-17 08:57:07

I did enjoy it last night. I was not sure if I would because I missed the second series but that did not matter.

Greyduster Tue 28-Feb-17 08:38:06

Don't worry; I am almost always wrong about these things!

PRINTMISS Tue 28-Feb-17 08:33:43

But why I wonder, did she phone from a phone box, when she had been home and changed her clothes?

tanith Tue 28-Feb-17 08:30:11

Never seen it before but I liked it. The guy with the condoms was the husband of the woman who organised the party.

Alima Tue 28-Feb-17 08:26:05

Is that the same man with the opened condom packet visible in the glove box? Red herring or sussed already?

Greyduster Tue 28-Feb-17 08:08:09

No I shouldn't think it will be Sir Len. My money is on the bloke that David Tennant clocked getting into his car across the road from Haley's house. He had a DDD (definitely dodgy demeanour!). grin

Pittcity Tue 28-Feb-17 08:01:31

Yes, the author was the journalist from the local paper Alima

Please tell me it wasn't Lenny Henry wot dun it!

Alima Tue 28-Feb-17 07:34:20

Yes, looks promising and "Haley" was good. The scenes with just Tennent and Coleman were excellent, those two are really good together. Could someone remind me, was the woman who wrote/helped with the book the one who has worked on the local paper for years?

chelseababy Tue 28-Feb-17 06:17:00

Not watched it yet but looking forward to seeing it tonight!
