One thing i noticed in the re runs is the amount of smoking and drinking that went on in the police force back then.

Love looking at the clothes they wore, especially the mens clothes and their hairstyles, so 80's early 90's you forget how fashions change.

Oo thanks NanKate I'll set my TV to record the series and also the new one. Broadchurch coming up too. We can gorge on crime!! Why do we enjoy badness so much? I certainly don't enjoy crime novels. confused

tanith

I think! you can access the original series on ITV HUB/ITV 3.

Anyone know if I'll be able to watch it on the ITV hub as we'll be out tonight? Then I can watch whenever I want.

I missed quite a lot of the series first time around and am going to spend the next couple of days catching up with this on replay,I can then watch every night as I have just retired again from my full time job and don't have to cope with early morning again,a joy to look forward to.

I watched it and I had actually forgotten the circumstances under which Tennyson was promoted, it was good to watch it from the beginning again.

I thought it would be the case it would be 'dated' but actually I enjoyed it and for it's time I now realise why it was deemed as being one of the best detective series we had.

Blimey you couldn't half notice the sexism and racism we were used to and it is quite an eye opener as to where we are today.

It goes to show a good storyline and acting will survive the years.

I too am a Prime Suspect fan. The prequel series starts on Thursday at 9pm on ITV. I hope I shan't be disappointed like I was with the Endeavour/Morse casting.

Don't forget the new Broadchurch on Monday!

i am watching on playback the recent showings of Prime Suspect. They are fabulous programs and i love the fact that i can understand every word that the cast is saying with out sub titles!!! ITV3 show some of the best progs from years ago, Blue Murder and Jack Frost are also my favs.

Glad I have a few GNetters to watch the series with.

Yes I am videoing it tooPogs so that I can watch back to back.

For any of you who do not have the ITV app I just downloaded it free on my IPad, easy-peasy. If I am awake early I put my earphones in and watch an episode whilst DH is asleep. When he wakes I give the I impression I have been watching the news and weather, not that he would mind what I watched. If any of you are reading my Decadence thread this is where I would 'fess up to watching a crime series at 6.00 am grin

Just had a look - yes, very pretty but not my idea of what the character should look like...

Greyduster Tue 14-Feb-17 13:37:36

Apparently it is the girl who played the female lead in Dr Thorne - Stefani Martini. The casting has caused a rift between the production company and La Plante. I think she has turned her back on it.

Ana Tue 14-Feb-17 13:12:37

I wonder who they'll get to play the 1973 Tennyson?

Brilliant stuff! That's WAAY past my bedtime, though. It's on DVD, I think, though.

The stand-out moment for me was the sculpted head of the victim. I suppose that technique must be commonplace now, but at the time it was cutting-edge.

Nan Kate

We are taping the 'Reruns' and will watch them back to back , at least 2 at a time.

We too said it will be interesting to see how the series pans out having watched detective dramas that have the advantage of better technological skills etc.

A good story and acting usually wins the day and Prime Suspect certainly had that from memory.

Charleygirl Tue 14-Feb-17 09:21:06

I am looking forward to the new series, I loved the previous ones.

Greyduster Tue 14-Feb-17 09:17:51

I think ( could be wrong) the new series must be based on Lynda la Plante's book "Tennyson" which is about when she first joined the police. DH read it and said it was very good.

NanKate Mon 13-Feb-17 12:02:50

For those who enjoyed this series there is going to be a rerun of them on ITV3 at 11.00 tonight and each evening. So some gritty viewing of a series 26 years old. It will be interesting to see how things have changed.

Soon there is going to be a prequel called Prime Suspect 1973
