There have been calls for the next Dr Who to be played by a woman shock

Which actress would you nominate for the role? And why?

Christinefrance Sun 05-Feb-17 19:21:48

Ooh yes Idris Elba for me too please.

Theoddbird Sun 05-Feb-17 17:19:17

Definitely...it is about time.

trisher Sun 05-Feb-17 11:36:14

Idris Elba would be good and very watchable!

Please can we keep a man as Dr Who? I like watching a man jumping about being heroic. Watching a woman doing the same merely makes me feel old and decrepit.

None ! it would be like changing Sherlock or Morse. Create a new character, surely we have enough great writers to do that ?

I love the idea of Miranda Hart, and could we have the yummy Tom Ellis as her sidekick please? with Sarah Hadland (Stevie) lending a hand. Then they could all burst into a chorus of "What have you done today"
Alternatively Patricia Hodge would make a very posh Doctor.

I would not mind a black or Asian Doctor Who, there has never been one, and as he changes each time there is no reason why it should not happen.

behaving? that is not a word I would apply to Miriam grin

by having
autocorrect again

Jalima Sat 04-Feb-17 19:53:45

Like Sherlock, Dr Who has become a parody of itself and I hope any sensible, serious actress would not touch it with a barge pole.

However - I think Miriam Margolyes, behaving that ability to not take herself seriously, would be brilliant.

I may even be persuaded to watch it again .....

chrissyh Sat 04-Feb-17 19:50:11

Anya, why would it be better to have a black or Asian Dr Who?

NanKate Sat 04-Feb-17 17:44:46

The comedienne Susan Calman would be excellent.

If we had another chap how about Prof Brian Cox, scrummie grin ?

Tamsin Grieg is playing Malvolia in a production of Twelfth Night. She would be good.

mrsjones Sat 04-Feb-17 17:26:14

I think Una Stubbs would be quirky enough and she's great in Sherlock. Probably would be considered too old though.

sgam Sat 04-Feb-17 17:20:42

Katherine Kelly would be great as she has been fantastic as Quill in the Dr Who spin off series of ' Class'. { She must have had so much fun in making that series}.

Christinefrance Sat 04-Feb-17 17:20:22

Not sure it's gritty enough for Sarah Lancashire, what about Suranne Jones or as suggested before Hermione Norris.

sally61 Sat 04-Feb-17 17:00:20

I'm all for equality and all that. but Doctor Who should be a man. A woman just doesn't work for me.

Legs55 Sat 04-Feb-17 14:36:19

Why??? haven't watched it for years but can't see the need for Doctor to be female, as for the "Harperson" I'll keep my opinions to myselfgrin

rafichagran Sat 04-Feb-17 14:22:09

I would have liked Idris Elba to be the next Doctor Who. Not fussed about a woman playing it, as Roses pointed out it is a time Lord.

annodomini Sat 04-Feb-17 14:18:12

I will miss Kris Marshall as I have loved his performance in Death in Paradise. Oh I hope his character finally gets together with Martha.
As for Dr Who: when my youngest GS, aged 9, heard that Peter Capaldi was leaving, he said it was the best piece of news he had heard all year. I dread to think what he would say about the idea of a woman in the role!

Aepgirl Sat 04-Feb-17 13:31:57

If we must have a female Dr Who (and I don't think we should), why not somebody we have never heard of. I get fed up with seeing the same people playing different roles in various TV series. Give a newbie a chance!!

Ana Sat 04-Feb-17 13:28:58

Goodness, I wouldn't have recognized Ardal O'Hanlon -hadn't reaised how much time had passed since Father Ted!

seacliff Sat 04-Feb-17 13:10:05

Yes, he is leaving after this series, because he has a young family and doesn't see them much. To be replaced by Father Ted star Ardal O'Hanlon (was he in it this week?) I only saw a bit of it.

Ana Sat 04-Feb-17 12:08:14

Has he? He was still in it last week... confused

Not sure Miriam M would really be fit enough for the part, being realistic. I just hope they don't go for a pretty young woman who looks like every other pretty young woman actress...

seacliff Sat 04-Feb-17 12:00:22

Miriam Margolis would be different (not mad on her myself) and how about Kris Marshall as assistant, now he's left Paradise?

Liz08 Sat 04-Feb-17 11:49:50

Yes, Kim19 - Sarah Lancashire (in full Happy Valley mode) or as Sue1169 suggested, Maxine Peake, both would be excellent and I might actually start watching it again. smile
