I'll nominate either Sarah Lancashire or Catherine Kelly, please

I haven't liked Dr Who for years and years.Certainly didn't think that Peter Capaldi was great ( all a matter of opinion I know) but to me he is forever Malcolm from The Thick Of It.
Why do we need a female Doctor? It could be ( I didn't write the Time Lord rules) that the Doctor was always male in all his different 'lives' simply because he is a Time Lord not a Time Lady.grin
If it had to be a woman, then somebody not well known as yet.

Beats me Arry confused

Why do we need a woman Dr Who

Hermione Norris? She's a versatile actress and did a star turn in Spooks. She would bamboozle The Master.
I love the thought of Miranda Hart or Dawn French in the role.
Have also fantisised about Lady Mary from Downton Abbey doing a cool aristocratic turn with Lady Edith as her assistant, or maybe Anna her ladies maid. Noblesse oblige!

Maxine Peake gets my vote....

I would like an older woman doctor. Peter Capaldi suggested Frances De La Tour, or I agree with Miriam Margolis. And she would need a very cute young man looking adoringly at her to complete the picture.

Thus killing two birds with one stone.

Better still how about an Asian or black female Dr Who?

grumppa

Didn't they do a spoof Dr Who once?

Perhaps it is ingrained in your memory bank. smile

Never watch it, but I might if the Dr. was Dawn French or Jennifer Saunders.

I agree POGS. They'll be suggesting we have a female Sherlock next!

Well Harriet Harman has said “Of course there should be a female Doctor Who but what we need is a man as her assistant,” so I guess it will happen. grin

I think Miriam Margolyes would certainly put a fresh take on the role, she has the quirky look, the strong personality and she could even wear her own clothes including pop socks as we have seen her wear on t.v recently. I don't mean that unkindly she would probably be the first to admit she has her own style.

Perhaps Wayne Sleep or Rosemary Shrager could be her assistant. confused

Personally I don't worry whether Dr Who remains a male character or becames a female Dr Who but I don't understand what the problem is in the first place. It's like saying Del Boy and Rodney 'should' become Fiona Fixer and Fifi.

Sometimes things simply are what they are and why change it if you are on a winner.

I could see Joanna Scanlan ( No Offence) doing it. She is a kick ass no nonsense sort of gal! Might have to widen the door of the Tardis a tad though!

Badenkate Fri 03-Feb-17 11:30:46

What about Nicola Walker from Unforgotten?

gillybob Fri 03-Feb-17 11:21:48

Now that would make me want to watch it Alima grin

Alima Fri 03-Feb-17 11:14:28

Only if she played it as Patsy.

Anya Fri 03-Feb-17 11:09:40

I was thinking perhaps Joanna Lumley?

yggdrasil Fri 03-Feb-17 10:58:52

Looks like that is what they are thinking of, but I don't want it. I didn't like the Master becoming Missy.

gillybob Fri 03-Feb-17 10:55:15

I have heard Olivia Colemans name mentioned for the role. I do hope she doesn't do it. She is much too good to be in such a load of tosh. (IMVHO)

MawBroon Fri 03-Feb-17 10:43:32

Always have the option of a woman doctor at our Health Centre. hmm

Alima Fri 03-Feb-17 10:42:55

Miranda Hart. Bit different, lots of galloping involved, able to catch the pesky aliens to zap them with her trusty screwdriver thingy.

Anya Fri 03-Feb-17 09:59:35

There have been calls for the next Dr Who to be played by a woman shock

Which actress would you nominate for the role? And why?
