BBC new idents.

I find the new idents intimidating, having people looking at me like they do. If they were smiling or having fun, it would be better but apparently they are to show diversity in Britain. Fair enough but I don't like being stared at. What does anyone else think?

Don't find them intimidating but so far not seen any I like. The one with the swimmers has me fascinated by the chap who seems to have a woman's chest. Can't work him out. Miss the various dancers from years back, oh and the penguins and hippos. Good old BBC.

They can't see you, you know grin

Pretty boring I think and none of them look like groups of people I would like to join. Those very cold looking swimmers are the last thing you want to see in the middle of winter. They certainly make diversity seem a miserable business.

Is it just me? I have no idea what it is you are discussing!

Ana Sat 28-Jan-17 11:21:19

Me neither, NonnaW confused

Eloethan Sat 28-Jan-17 14:24:29

Nor me.

I normally pride myself (!) on having a good vocabulary but I admit I had to look this up as I had no idea what an ident was either!

If the Ident is the add I think it is with the swimmers, I did not notice the people so much as the background which I think is Brighton beach and pier.

What does indent mean? I know what you mean by the swimmers though I have noticed it. Brrrr.

Its the snippets of film before the programmes.....used to be the swimming hippos and the jumping dogs etc.......must admit they have not driven me to put pen to paper as it were....there have been some very rude comments on one TV listing magazine......they are just a bit boring, and rather uninspiring.....I think I understand the idea behind them (tolerance and inclusion) but they just do not make me smile like the dogs, hippos etc used to do.....so I find myself tuning them out....hence I think I say they do not really work (for me anyway).

The location is at Clevedon Pier nr Bristol... Martin Parr (who I really don't care for- having met him) made the film.

I guess he's done the others around the country, haven't seen those as I am in the SW.

It would have been nice to get them to wave or cheer or do something. They look confused.com!

If they are supposed to be about bringing different cultures together, there is not one black person on the wheelchair one, all white. That's not doing anything for helping the country unite, is it? It's not realistic these days to only have white people recognised and championing Britain. The reply from the BBC said that there are more to be rolled out over the coming months, so we'll see how many different races are represented to show Britain's unity. We are a multicultural society, show this BBC.

P.s. I didn't know what an ident was neither until DS did media at college! ???‍?

felice Sun 29-Jan-17 09:20:51

Not sure about them but have been having problems explaining their meaning to my Flemish SO.

NanaMacGeek Sun 29-Jan-17 12:04:16

I can't say I’ve particularly noticed many of these except for the very clever one that is a pastiche of the Tom Lehrer "Elements" song - www.youtube.com/watch?v=zGM-wSKFBpo

I think the swimmers are awful and the women doing aerobics or whatever just as bad - the wheelchair rugby is a bit better. I loved the hippos and the cyclists going round the roundabout - they were lovely and colourful. For me many of the ones I have seen so far are boring colourwise. Bring back the potter's wheel!

I feel sorry for the woman who can't keep up with the others at the aerobics class.
