This film proves that science fiction films need not be just for the boys.
Amy Adams puts in a wonderful performance as a linguist who is trying to understand the communication of an alien species that arrives at several locations on earth. Supporting actors also good. Nice to see Forrest Whittaker who may well get more work in middle age than he did as a young man with unconventional looks. Far from being the usual science fiction extravaganza with lots of fighting and physical heroics in space, this is a subtle and thoughtful film.
There is a wonderful body of science fiction literature written by women and it is good to see something similar in film.
Put this one at the top of your list while it is still in cinemas. There's nothing quite like the experience of seeing a film like this in a cinema is there - so much more absorbing than watching on TV.
