Anyone looking forward to this? I've just finished the book-it was thoroughly gripping.

Can't wait! Sunday night at 9pm.

I wouldn't call her "admirable" but I don't see her as a villain either. I see her as someone who made some very stupid mistakes because she felt isolated and sad, and who made the most stupid decision because she was terrified.

Although I have sympathy with Jane10's dislike of yet another story featuring a woman being viciously attacked and raped, I have to admit I have found it quite gripping.

grumppa Mon 06-Feb-17 16:50:00

Thank you pittcity. I missed that.

BlueBelle Mon 06-Feb-17 16:35:36

I think I ll start using sub titles Ladygrace I m looking forward to tonights episode and also hoping it doesn't fizzle out Contarary to what you say about Yvonne appealing to people Trisher I don't really like the character very much I find her quite dour and a bit depressing I thought the bloke who came to talk to her in the kitchen looked rather like Mark I had to do a double take, but that might just be me

LadyGracie Mon 06-Feb-17 15:36:30

I'm really enjoying it, I hope the ending isn't a disappointment, I've been enthralled throughout, please don't let it finish like a damp squib! I always have subtitles on as DH regularly asks 'what did he/she say'? I used to find them distracting but you soon get used to them.

trisher Mon 06-Feb-17 15:30:54

grumpa is a woman who has sex with a man she has just met in back alleys, cheats and lies to her husband, is involved in the murder of a man she knew and lies to the police really 'admirable'? I wouldn't have thought so. Or could it be that the attractive and vulnerable looking Emily Watson somehow appeals to our hearts and proves that women are still judged by the way they look and not by their actions?

Nelliemoser Mon 06-Feb-17 15:26:33

I noticed the silly idea of interviewing a rape victim in a completely rubbish in many of these details. Speaking too quietly and the B*** background music noise.

There was a similar bit of script stupidity in The unforgotten! Where the school teacher started talking to her hubby about her days on the game without checking if anyone else in the house might be within earshot.
For me it spoils the story slighty to have their characters make such stupid errors just to forward the plot.
Silent Witness was another one of those. Members of the public just wandering into the building. Never mind the idea of the pathologists going out to act like detectives. I still watch though.

I am enjoying Apple Tree Yard. I agree at times some of the dialogue is difficult to catch but I think the acting especially in the last episode was really good. Poor pregnant daughter. Will the couple's marriage survive this lot?

Jomarie Mon 06-Feb-17 12:46:15

Greyduster - my feelings exactly!

Jane10 Mon 06-Feb-17 09:42:04

Alima- yes indeed, disappointed Edinburgh!
Incidentally did people see Tracy Ullman's sketch called 'Another Mumbly Drama'! Nail on head.
Apple Tree Yard -not mumbly just not entertaining. Prurient.

Pittcity Mon 06-Feb-17 09:15:53

The MI6 boss said he failed to get in and ended up as security in the Houses of Parliament grumppa

grumppa Mon 06-Feb-17 08:48:18

And Holloway Prison closed last July. Perhaps having been sent to Holloway initially, Yvonne had to be transferred to a nick south of the river.

Alima Mon 06-Feb-17 08:23:27

My ears must work better than I'd thought as I don't have a problem with the sound. I am enjoying this programme much better than the actual book. Must admit that Mark Bonnar is spreading himself very thinly, keep thinking I am watching him in Unforgotton. Jane 10, disgusted Edinburgh, or wherever?

Greyduster Mon 06-Feb-17 08:07:43

I started out not enjoying this, and I'm still not enjoying it, but somehow it has become compulsive viewing. I'm glad it is finishing tonight.

Jane10 Mon 06-Feb-17 07:39:32

Well I thought it was horrible. I'd recorded it and watched the first episode yesterday. I didn't get to the end. What appeared to be a rape scene isn't my idea of entertainment. I cancelled further recordings.

J52 Mon 06-Feb-17 07:34:01

I'm enjoying it and am looking forward to the main characters cross examination in tonight's episode. I haven't read the book and probably won't now.

The only thing that jars is the continuity, in the police van Yvonne crossed the Thames on her way from Holloway to the Old Bailey. She wouldn't have done this as they are on the same Northern side.
Unless of course they were taking her the scenic route!

BlueBelle Mon 06-Feb-17 05:58:49

TAke it you're not enjoying it then Jalima
Yes I m finding the speech difficult, sometimes mumbly and the Scottish accent a bit strong
I enjoyed last night s episode much better

Jalima Sun 05-Feb-17 23:22:35

I'm glad it is going to finish tomorrow, let's get it over and done with!

grumppa Sun 05-Feb-17 22:38:31

I admit to wanting to know how it ends, but I now want to know how a failed spook managed to get the run of the Palace of Westminster. And why are all the leading male characters so unpleasant, while the females are so admirable? It is obviously nothing to do with the original author and the director being women.

Actually, I could forgive any director who did the TV equivalent of sitting near the back of the stalls and yelling "Speak clearly darlings! I can't hear you."

Still, it's good to see Mark Bonnar saving his energy by turning in an identical performance to the one running concurrently in Unforgotten.

Lyndylou Sun 05-Feb-17 22:19:57

Yes, this drama has kept me enthralled all the way through and I lose interest very quickly with most TV. I'm looking forward to the finish tomorrow, but I shall miss it.

BlueBelle Sun 05-Feb-17 22:14:47

Oh eh that was good I m into it now pity it finishes tomorrow

trisher Tue 31-Jan-17 22:18:44

Ah wait and see! I have read the book I know what happens. It's......

willsmadnan Tue 31-Jan-17 20:10:30

I see the BBC are at their usual tricks.... showing new 'teasers' for Sunday/ Monday's episodes. I wish they wouldn't do that. I don't want to be forewarned... I want to come to the party and see how it progresses. Can't wait.
Shall we have poll on who has been bumped off? (Those who have read the book are excludedgrin) Not sure how that's going to work though confused

Jalima Tue 31-Jan-17 19:50:43

gettingonabit yes, I could too, but only how he looks in my picture!

And it's my picture, mine I tell you!
You can look but don't touch.

gettingonabit Tue 31-Jan-17 19:26:43

Yes, it's Mark, but we don't know this until the court case. Or Yvonne. She always calls him X, or "my love" ugh.

BlueBelle Tue 31-Jan-17 18:29:18

Really Dogsmother I must be so unobservant I d never noticed
