Holocaust Memorial - I can't find words really

BBbevan Sun 15-Jan-17 21:18:00

My DD, aged 50, cried right through it all.

Elrel Sun 15-Jan-17 21:18:13

I agree, shocking, I hope we've learned from it.

NotTooOld Sun 15-Jan-17 21:32:49

So do I, Elrel. Did you see the group picture of a very big family? They all died except for one man. Very shocking. How were so many Germans hoodwinked into believing that what was going on was right? It's beyond belief.

Elrel Sun 15-Jan-17 21:35:11

Yes, many children in that group photograph. Unimaginable yet it happened.q

My son visited Dachau last week. He was saying how important he felt it was, but at the same time he hated the feeling of voyeurism (spelling). I do understand but these camps must never be destroyed

Aged about 11 DGS told me he thought every child should read 'The Boy in Striped Pyjamas'. Out of the mouths of babes ...

Of course we ve learned bloody nothing two countries just voted on the back of racism and the refugees are lined up behind wire fences bathing in the snow to try and keep clean and starving to death in Europe just he has chambers missing The little kids parted from their parents it all the same over and over

Hitler Stole Pink Rabbit is an excellent book. I read it to DD2 when she was recovering from measles and she read it to her yr.6 class last term. They were so immersed in it they applauded at the end.

whitewave Sun 15-Jan-17 21:50:13

Oh bluebelle I know. But the fight for justice must never stop

BlueBelle Sun 15-Jan-17 21:50:25

Notoold can't you see the irony in what you ve just said ' how could so many Germans be hoodwinked' we re totally doing exactly the same all over

Elrel Sun 15-Jan-17 21:50:31

Why are we so helpless at learning from history?

I could imagine a crowd of Trump supporters sitting round playing that awful board game - only they'd be going round the board picking up Muslims.

So depressing to hear the things that happened, yet so uplifting to see the people who had survived.

I think I have mentioned before that when DH was driving round Europe he parked up one night in the dark and was aware of a very unpleasant atmosphere. In the daylight he was able to see the sign that said Dachau! And DH is not an imaginative person.
