I didn't really fancy watching this but tuned in a little way through. I thought it was lovely - funny and touching without being mawkish. And what a wonderful tribute to the quiet decency of Raymond Briggs' parents and thousands like them.

We watched, laughed and felt sad with the family. So glad I realised it was on and recorded it. Brought back memories of my dad, just like Ernest.

Wonderful story with beautifully crafted characters. So moving. (Thrilled to recognise the staircase in the park very near where we live!)

Poignant and sad. It's a shame Ethel and Ernest didn't live long enough to know what a success he became.

I bought the original book a long time ago and found it enchanting. Really looked forward to seeing the film and it didn't disappoint - I did record it and will watch it again for sure. What a treat!!

Wonderful, the best thing on TV this Christmas if not this year. A classic, like the snowman. Brilliant!

We're still wiping our eyes. Utterly brilliant piece of social history.

I was mesmerised by it. It struck chords with DH and I all over the place. Wish I'd taped it now. Definitely a keeper.

How delightful this was. Raymond Brigg's parents led such a simple life but they were so endearing. This has to be a classic i the making. Did anyone else watch it?
