Did anyone see this lovely programme on Channel 4 last night? Like most people I was watching the final of Strictly but had spotted this earlier so recorded it. I'm so glad I did, it's the most charming and interesting programme I've seen in a long time. Presented by Ardal O'Hanlan ( of Father Ted) it made me want to go on a pilgrimage to visit all the trees featured.
If you love trees please try to watch it on catch up.

It was a lovely programme although I chose a different tree as my winner.

I didn't see the programme but saw it advertised and admit to thinking "whatever next". I read yesterday that some "Tree of the Year" cash has been made available to save a rare 120 year old Huntingdon Elm here in Sheffield which is embroiled in the current furore going on about tree cutting in one of the suburbs. I have mixed feelings about the matter. I love our city trees and don't want to see mature trees cut down, but when they were planted years ago, no one gave a thought to their roots pushing up through the pavements and causing all sorts of other structural problems, so I have some sympathy with the council (and that's a first!).
