Silly me, Galloways Respect party has died. He was a member of Respect and even wanted to enter the EU parliment standing as a respect candidate. Living in the past? Rubbish.

Daniel Blake really existed. He lived in Manchester, not Newcastle. Many of the people in the film are real people collecting food from the foodbank in Newcastle, the largest foodbank in the country. It was shot in Byker, which really exists, with real people walking the streets, in poverty.

He's not a member of the Respect Party. He started his own party, called Unity, whose members have now joined the Labour Party.
Why do you live in the past so much?

You are talking of the Blair years Jen, whrn evil,Blair brought in the minimum wage ,tax credits, sure start etc, easy to understand why you never voted for him because you knew he was not a good leader

But a member of the Respect party makes a film sbout a fictional character and you in ecstasy. And yes I know people are suffering as these fictional characters did and with your support of Corbyn you are helping this suffering to continue

Bobbysgirl, the flaws in the welfare system is politics, isn't it? Politics is about people and the system.
When Labour was in power, there was no bedroom tax or sanctioning. Nobody died because they'd had their benefits stopped for months. Nobody had their benefits capped. There were a few foodbanks, but not the number there are now. That foodbank queue was like soup kitchens when the strikes were on in the 80s.

How can you say it's not party political?

Hi mumofmadboys, I went to see this film last night and thought it was brilliant!
Found it very thought provoking, and politics didn't come into it for me.

What it did highlight for me were the flaws in the welfare system, which would exist regardless of which party was in power. Also the jobsworth people who were totally disinterested in individuals, just probably in furthering their own careers.

I can see why this film won lots of awards, it certainly made me think!

If a Lynch film made fifty years ago can be discussed !

Jen, this is confusing, you refer to MP's who I support , I support the Labour Party, I do not support the cut off branch who call themselves red labour momentum

I think Corbyn has a problem, he stayed an MP to vote against the whip. He got shot of wife 2 because he didn't approve of her choice of school for their son. He didn't continue at college because he disagreed with the carriculum set by his lecturers

Think there is a name for this sort of person but I cannot think what it is, I must ask the mental health team at the next meeting

Changing tack slightly, but still on the film front. A friend bought me a ticket to The Innocents yesterday. Felt cold right through as its so atmospheric with the snow on the ground. Won't spill any beans but would be interested to hear what others think about it.

By the way it's subtitled for anyone who hates that sort of thing.

There hasn't been a general election since Corbyn became leader, so it's not the same.
You voted labour because you thought Blair a good leader. I didn't vote Labour because I thought he was a bad leader.

Corbyn thought he was doing the right thing by voting against Blair from within the party. However, he only did it by voting against the whip for what he believed in, not creating open sedition, unlike many of the PLP now.

Many of the Labour members you support now did not oppose the Tory party helping to cause the very conditions that are shown in I, Daniel Blake.

Jen, following your logic that Blair was my favourite because I voted labour when he was leader the same applies to Corbyn who stood as a labour MP whilst Blair was leader.

Why didn't he leave labour and join Galloways Repect Party? Ken Loach was a member, he even stood as a respect candidate for the EU elections
