Changing radio stations - any suggestions?

Thanks for all your comments and suggestions. Having tried various stations over the last week I find I am still reverting back to Radio 2, even though it can annoy me. I like the mix of music and chat although I think I will be mixing it with Radio 4 and Absolutely when it gets too much.

We can't get Planet Rock now, not sure what they did on their last chanel change but our DAB radio won't get it in the house, even after retuning. My OH who prefers it to any other station can still get it in the garage at the end of the garden confused.

Another vote for Smooth, Jazzfm and Absolutely.

Radio 4 or Radio Cymru in car.

I find Radio 2 increasingly annoying.

5 Live is always on here, there is no music on it.
Sometimes gets annoying if big sports thing happening (Olympics etc) but just hit the off switch.

I like Smooth Radio

I swither between Radio 4, Classic FM and Radio 3. I am listing to Radio 6 at the moment as DD has it on constantly......hmm. I think R4 comes out tops as there's so much diversity and I am always learning something from it

I am another LBC fan. I listen to it while cleaning the house and it takes my mind off the tedium of the task. I like to listen to Smooth radio while driving.

I listen to Radio 2, 4, 5 live, 6 music and LBC depending on my mood and what's on at the time.
LBC can be very confrontational, especially Nick Ferrari and I hate those ads spoken at top speed but it can also be riveting listening.

I'm a R4 listener too - when I can escape DH's ranting about The Today presenters and BBC bias. He still listens though! We have Classic FM on in the car and then it's my turn to rant - I really don't know why I listen to it. I also hate local radio. All in all, I'm not the best person to recommend a station to anyone!

I don't think you can beat LBC.

If you can get it there is a great station from Belguim called, Nostalgie, went for a walk this afternoon with DGS, Mum and Dad busy with the Brussels Beer festival this weekend.
We popped into a bar/cafe and had great fun singing along to Hermans' Hermits, No Milk Today. The beer was quite good too.

Smooth radio, similar to radio 2 but with adverts unfortunately.

Radio 4 here too, I am 58 and have had my radios permanently tuned to it since my early thirties*Ana*!

Perhaps I was prematurely"old" blush

I love music, but prefer to choose what I listen to, so often put a CD on.

I listen to Classic FM a lot especially in the morning and later in the day if I'm feeling funky Smooth or Jazz FM We have a Sonos which accesses a lot more radio stations from the internet but also Amazon Prime which has a variety of playlist for every mood and occasion.

Thanks to you all for your suggestions. Will try every station, one day at a time and hope that I find something that I can happily listen to, perhaps in tandem with Radio 2.

My dial is always on R4. I wake up to it in the morning and go to bed with it.

However I am known to come downstairs with a sore head at 8am having listened to the arrogant questioning by Humphries, accompanied by his stupid cough when he gets hi throat in knots.

Well past his sell by date, but thats BBC which we all pay for, and their overbloated structure.

Now I see Nadya of GBBO fame is being feted. Lovely intelligent woman, but like Greg of MasterChef ,being flogged.

Radio 4 fan myself!

Eloethan Sat 03-Sept-16 18:38:44

Do you listen to it for the "chat" or for the music? If the latter, Magic is quite a nice (commercial) station with very few adverts and mostly middle-of-the-road pop music.

Radio4 fan, wake up with Today, also enjoy Radio4Extra enjoying Miriam Margolyes reading Sue Townsend's book The Queen and a few other programmes, if I want music Classic FM or Radio 6.

I like Radio 2 for Ken Bruce and Steve Wright. I also tune in to Absolute, it has different channels such as Absolute 70s,80s or classic rock for a fix of music from that genre.

Ana Sat 03-Sept-16 15:32:36

I like Radio 2 as well, except when Vanessa Feltz or Patrick Whatsit stand in for someone!

I bet you'll get lots of recommendations for Radio 4 - it seems to be the station of choice for a lot of older people but it's not for me.

shandi6570 Sat 03-Sept-16 15:27:57

I have always listened to the radio during the day and over the years enjoyed different stations to fit my changing tastes/lifestyle. For several years now I have listened to Radio 2, but I wonder what has happened to it recently. I know that several regular presenters have taken their summer holiday, but almost every daytime programme seems to have an annoying female voice twittering about very little, along with more and more 'interviews' with young artists I have never heard of.

Maybe I'm just getting too old for the station. Can anyone advise of another one that I may like, something that has a variety of music along with some chat and items of interest.
