Am I the only one ?

The thing I really hate is the wildly overdramatic trailers for all the soaps and crime serials. It's not just the BBC, ITV do just as much of it. Everything is smoke, blue lights and dramatic music. I don't watch any of the soaps now and the trailers make sure I don't.

I like a good crime story but at the moment they all seem to be shot in the dark with indistinguishable people shouting at each other in accents that require subtitles.

I love it too for the people watching. The papers have already had a go at one of the contestants for being a ' loose woman' and it hasn't started yet. Give it a chance.

oops baking....not backing

mrsjones......to be honest its not the cake backing itself that is so gripping.
Its more about the clever constructed (yes I am fully aware yet still enjoy it) atmosphere of sweetly old fashioned home cooking for ones loved ones. Its about the people and their lives and circumstances and how they rise to the (really rather daft task) of making a chocolate gateaux or similar in 20 minutes when in real life one would clear the kitchen lock the children in the shed and take all afternoon (and several attempts. Its about Mary and Paul and the gentle lie that he's a tyrant and she's a pussy cat when in real life its probably the other way round. Its about Mel and Sue and just how far they can go with the double entendres. I could go on but I get a bit evangelical.
To sum up it came on air a few years ago when life was tough, the news was grim and most TV seemed to be about sex, violence or Big brother.....this programme allows you to curl up, eat cake and generally wallow in a bit of escapist pleasure that is somehow not actually bad for you....unless you make too many cakes....but somehow I don't!

I have never watched the Bake Off as I have no interest in making cakes but all the advertising has made me curious and I am going to tune in tonight.

The BBC is very good at promoting itself and advertising its forthcoming programmes. It irritate me too Floradora, especially between 7am and 8 am when all I really want is news and travel information. For that reason I have switched to SKY at breakfast time.
They do overdo the build up.

Its a bit tricky to comment here.....I can understand that there are programmes you do not like....we all have those (P.S. I adore the Bake Off) but if a programme is statistically popular any TV company worth its salt is going to advertise it.
Personally I do not like repeated trailing of programmes especially before or after the continuity announcer has just told us about it. All advertisements get annoying if repeated too much whether they trail a programme or try to sell insurance.
There is certainly a lot of, in my opinion, rubbishy programmes on but that's when I either turn it off or find something edifying on Iplayer that went out late on BBC4.

I'm also fed up with the publicity for Bake Off. I appreciate some people love it and that's fine - I don't have to watch it. However this morning on local radio, they talked about it constantly, (mentioned at least every 10 minutes) sent one reporter off to someone's house to bake a cake (!) and bring it back before the programme finished and had a phone in about favourite cakes.
