Anyone else watching this? It's on ITV. A slice of social history from the early 1980s and the theme is about when Ann Summers started out via "party plan" sales.

Penelope Wilton is good in it, actually the whole cast is. I've only watched one episode but will tune in again.

It's informative for me (I hasten to add), I've never been in the store! grin

And I've never been to an Ann Summers party sad

I watched it, thought it was good. Went to an Ann Summers party years ago. Bought a nightie that was open at what would have been the side seams...... I sewed up the seams.confused

Think this good too, just realised, after thinking where have I seen her before, that "Steph" played a good part also in Peaky Blinders.

I'm watching kit because here isn't much else on but not really keen- fell asleep in last night's episode.

not seen this programme, will find it on catch up tv.I went to a couple of Anne Summers parties, they were quite tame [as was I, only bought a blouse at them, very good quality though and wore them for ages.]

I like it,drama and humour with a great feel for the era, exploring the perceived lot of housewives and the effect of unemployment on families.Looking forward to the next episode.
Never been to an Ann Summers either!

Not seen a good review of it in the papers at all. Too predictable and not really funny.

I'll have a look at this. Went to an Ann Summers party only once. We were all teachers who worked at the same school and were NOT going to be screaming harridans, no matter how hard the organiser tried. Mainly remember a "game" in which we had to shout out slang words for female genitalia. We were rubbish! blush

I thought the scenes where the little boy went missing were unrealistic. Only one policeman in attendance who happens to be the one who has already met and fancies the mother?

hmm

I recognised the getaway driver as Jesse from Holby in a wig-not a very convincing one either. It was driving me nuts trying to work out what he'd been in before.

You have all lead sheltered lives wink. I have been to a few Anne Summers parties, been in the shop and have bought and bought for me, some of the goods too. grin

I once had my daughter and her boyfriend in my room, chatting and I caught my bedside cabinet and a certain "rabbit" started buzzing! I didn't know where to look!

When we got married and could afford to replace the second hand bed we got from my grandma's neighbour, the delivery men came with our brand new bed and mattress. They said they would take the old one away first. Yikes! A quick dash upstairs to take the stockings tied to the handles of the mattress! blush

Being a little adventurous in the bedroom (or anywhere else come to that) is probably the bit I miss from having a sex life.

Anyway, TMI now. I enjoy this new series, there is too much reality TV on and a good drama is just what I need from time to time and I love the actresses, era and storylines. Brilliant.

p.s. If you don't see me on this site when my son goes to uni, it may be because I am making up for lost time!!!!! grin

I agree Merlot and after watching two episodes finding it all very predictable.

Jane10 Wed 13-Jul-16 07:35:05

I agree it is predictable in a plucky 'sisters in adversity' sort of way but the characters are very likeable. I've always liked Penelope Wilton in particular. The Ann Summers side of things is just a pretext and is pretty much glossed over.

Love the programme, it brought back many memories. I was always invited as I was always ready to dress up. I was asked to leave an Ann Summers shop once. I was in there with a male friend ( not to buy) we got the giggles so bad, an assistant came up to us and said " this is a serious establishment" that only made the giggles worse.

I enjoyed the first episode but felt the second one was a bit over the top but will persevere. I have been to a couple of Anne Summers parties. Went to the first one with my mother-in-law because we didn't realise what it was all about. I know I didn't but anything but not sure about her!

I am enjoying this series , Penelope Wilton is such a versatile actor she is a joy to watch.I have been to a few Ann Summers parties and always had a good laugh! Bought my husband a "Posing Pouch" once he was not very impressed.
