I cant wait for Montobano to come back But I did like the Bearded Iclandic detictive. Tried watching Wallander way to slow and boring.

Aww, I was looking forward to this series, recorded, yet to watch it, so I am not going to read this thread any further.

I didn't enjoy it much - like many of you, I prefer the Swedish Wallander. I thought toward the end, Ken Branagh looked as bored as I felt. DH, as is his wont, had worked out who was behind it by about half past nine!

I've come to Wallender late, I think I prefer the Swedish version, with the 2nd actor who played him I thought he was excellent. The last time I watched he was grappling with the onset of dementia. I turned on last night expecting to see Sweden not South Africa, it didn't really engage me.

Can't say I really liked Wallender in a southern hemisphere country, but some of the scenic shots were fantastic ..... certainly a contrast to the Nordic gloom. But surely that's the USP of Wallender anyway? I just hope he's back on home territory for the next one, he just didn't look right wandering round a SA township .

Story was considerably changed from the original, partly I think in an effort to make it more up to date, but I think the motivation and conviction behind the crime were lost in the update.

Me too, mrsmopp. It was all very predictable.

Didn't really enjoy this as much as previous Wallenders, and thought it could do with condensing a bit as it was very drawn out and I got bored....
Sorry, shame as I was looking forward to it.

Detectives should never, ever leave their home turf. Just look what happened every time Jessica Fletcher left Cabot Cove. Bodies everywhere. ( Yes. I know she was a crime writer not a detective but you know what I mean)

I watched the Swedish version of this story recently on one of the Flemish channels it was a completely different story. Vaguely similar but not a lot.

It's just not right, Branagh doesn't seem to have the moody/depressive/complex character that Swedish actors have brought to the part. Don't know if it is something to do with the language but that brooding look is missing. Maybe it is the heat?!

It's sooooooooo slow.

AyjayF Sun 22-May-16 22:02:33

How did that come out as Wallenstein???

AyjayF Sun 22-May-16 22:01:47

Wallenstein needs to get back to Sweden. South Africa is too hot for him in every way
