Is anyone watching Home Fires Series 2 which started on 3 April?

I didn't see any of the first series so am not sure whether to forget it and just join in now - or would anyone recommend getting hold of Series 1 first? If the programme is any good I'd prefer to enjoy the lot from the beginning. Thanks.

I was really disappointed to read ITV have , in their wisdom, cancelled the third series despite the fact it was already part written. Apparently the stars and crew are really upset too. There is an on line petition if anyone is interested.... Almost 25,000 signatures last time I looked!

Well the campaign to save Homefires seems to be hotting up, it's in several papers today and the WI is bombarding ITV with pots of jam! Apparently when the lady who started the petition tried to deliver it to Adam Crozier (CEO of ITV) he declined to meet her and she had to take it round to the goods entrance. Nice to know ITV really care about their viewers!

I don't know if it will do any good but there's a petition up and running, to get the powers that be to keep it going. You can sign it here...

I've received the usual "refreshing the drama portfolio" email from ITV.They never seem to feel the need to refresh any of the real garbage do they?

Indinana Mon 16-May-16 12:23:08

Oh lord, before any TV company sees my last post, I didn't mean it. Please don't ruin our TV dramas with that crackpot idea! (I wouldn't put it past them!)

nigglynellie Mon 16-May-16 12:22:15

Oh lord, what next?!!!

Indinana Mon 16-May-16 12:20:18

X Factor and it's like will always survive because it makes money from viewer participation Perhaps they should do that with TV drama too - ask viewers to phone in on a premium number at the end of each episode to vote for their preferred outcome grin

There is talk of another TV company picking up Home Fires to continue it. Here's for hoping. Apparently series 3 has been started, but now inexplicably axed?!!! X factor and similar drivel is alive and well, but not on going drama!! The same happened with Ripper Street!

Pat and Marek live happily ever after, please.

Anniebach Mon 16-May-16 09:29:54

They are all doomed grin

Jane10 Mon 16-May-16 09:00:44

It is based on a book but has developed the story beyond it. Maybe between us we can complete it for our own satisfaction?
What will happen to Pat and Marek?
What will happen to the factory?
Who was killed by that aeroplane crash?
Will there be good news for anyone?
Its up to us now -any answers?

Deedaa Sun 15-May-16 23:03:19

No idea why they've axed it. It was just a throw away comment in his round up of the week's TV.

Jalima Sun 15-May-16 22:14:11

Is it based on a book - maybe the book goes further?
Or perhaps it wasn't in the book at all, artistic licence and all that

Why have they axed it?

Deedaa Sun 15-May-16 21:54:12

According to the TV critic in the Sunday Express ITV decided on Thursday to axe Home Fires! Now we shall never know what happened angry

Couldn't agree more Deedaa D only realized once she'd escaped.

And even now I think a lot of mental abuse and controlling behaviour goes unnoticed even by the victim.

Jalima Wed 11-May-16 23:00:03

Thank you anniebach
Just to clarify - my distant ancestor was not Julia Sawalha, who is in fact much younger than me smile
(she wasn't called Dorcas Lane either)

Anniebach Wed 11-May-16 22:00:35

It was only in 1991 that it became illegal for a husband to rape his wife

I think Homefires is the best thing on TV at the mo . I just hope Bob gets his comeuppance in a nasty way . He makes my blood boil and to think that men were allowed to get away with it at one time . It is only since the 70`s that the police would interfere with domestic violence before that it was considered a private matter between husband and wife .

Anniebach Wed 11-May-16 20:46:53

Dorcas - it's my one weakness - Lane smile

Perhaps it was my fault for playing Sherlock blush , well, trying but failing

whispers I don't know merlotgran but have a glass of wine, cheers - I don't think you said anything, Christinefrance was agreeing with you, it must have been the rest of us, oh dear, I have just finished the rest of the wine, do I have to open another one? No, it's only Wednesday.

Reminds me of Lark Rise to Candleford when the postmistress (can't remember her name) adopted the lovely Sidney.
I am very proud to say that the postmistress in RL on whom the character in the book was based was a very distant ancestor of mine smile, well, not directly, but a cousin of my GGF.

nigglynellie Wed 11-May-16 19:22:20

Not awfully sure!!!!!

Ana Wed 11-May-16 18:47:53

I've been looking for that as well, merlot! grin

merlotgran Wed 11-May-16 18:38:06

whispers 'What am I supposed to have said?' confused

nigglynellie Wed 11-May-16 18:35:56

Christinefrance, who's preaching at who via this programme, or have I misunderstood your post?!
